Overview
Introduction

Introduction
Examined the feasibility of renovating the

Hamline University Gym

Researched the need of a gym renovation to
allow more students to work out at one time
The current gym can only accommodate a
small percentage of the total Hamline student
population

Introduction
Determined positive and negative social and

economic benefits:

Higher GPAs
Increased # of applications
Greater university Awareness
Identified if the gym renovation is financially
realistic
Different methods of funding
Possible additional staff and maintenance

Criteria for Feasibility

Is the renovation of the gym affordable?
Will the renovation increase the student use

of the gym and reduce the crowdedness?

Will the student body be in favor of
renovating the gym?
When would the gym renovation take
place?
Will the renovation lead to higher GPAs?

Methods
Researched other local university gyms to see

how Hamline compared

Researched the current use of the Hamline
gym
Researched the most recent gym renovation
Surveyed students to gauge their opinion about
the current gym and interest in a renovation
Researched numerous methods of funding for
the gym

The Problem
The current gym is often overcrowded and

only allows for a small percentage of the

students to work out at one time
The hours limit the time when students can
work out
Hamline sports teams often take over the gym
and it doesnt allow for other students to work
out at the same time

Conclusions
As long as the gym continues to be

overcrowded and used by students, a

renovation will be supported
The cost of renovating the gym could be done
for under $1 million and is relatively
affordable
As long as the gym continues to get used, a
gym renovation will be needed at some time

Recommendations
More research and surveys are recommended
More financial analysis should be conducted
Public opinion and support should be gauged

thru the use of a survey

More research into the possible substantial
benefits to the university as a whole should be
examined further
