LESSON PLAN

The following is a sample of the Lesson Plan format used by the University.
Lesson Topic/Focus:

Examining patterns made with

Transformations

Date:

19/11/2014

AusVELS Domain(s):

Mathematics

Year level(s):

5/6

AusVELS strand (s):

Discipline based learning

L e s s o n 60 minutes
duration:

AusVELS sub-strand(s):

Measurement and Geometry

AusVELS Dimension(s)
or Religious Education
Guideline:

Location and Transformation- (ACMMG114) and (ACMMG115)

Learning Standard(s)/Outcome(s):
For students to describe the transformations of two-dimensional shapes, identifying line and rotational
symmetry, whilst examining patterns made with transformations.

Learning Intention to be displayed and

made explicit to students at the
beginning of the class to ensure all students
know how they can be successful.

At the conclusion of this lesson, the students will know/understand that: shapes have a range
of different transformations used to make patterns, including tessellations.

Strategies that support students in

achieving the learning goals.

At the conclusion of this lesson, the students will demonstrate the skills/strategies of: problem
solving and reasoning. Students will use problem solving as they solve problems using shapes.
Reasoning will include students using investigating strategies to perform calculations and problems
efficiently whilst continuing patterns.

Strategies that support students

in achieving the learning goals.
