Goal/Purpose
of Lesson

Start of chapter 6 which will cover formulas in depth


and include Function formulas.Used media to
enhance instruction by using laptops, overhead
projectors and go to share drive and copy a folder
containing info for chapter 6 and open a folder and
excel sheet. Relates lesson to prior lessons from
chapter 5 when opening folder. Use of overhead to
explain folder, by showing key information and
answers questions from students . Attendance records
are complete as student open folder and read
directions on function formulas. Walks around and
reviews pass learning. Questions diagnose student
recall from previous learning. Student and teacher
work through problem together by looking at columns
on excel spreadsheet. Students type in needed info to
set up problem. Instructor takes students step by step
using basic math formulas in completing the
spreadsheet.

Students revisit basic math and learning to answer


questions as they move through calculating the
formulas. Shows another problem in excel for
students to work through and asks questions and
steps. Defines key terms like Gross pay, next step .

Shows students how excel sheet automatically


calculates the columns by hi lite them. Questions
measure understanding by showing step by step
process. This helps students see how the function
formulas work. All students follow along on their own
computer to show an easier and more effective way to
use excel to calculate. Shows some other functions to
incorporate Sum, and how it hi liters and fills in each
column. Student experience hands on approach to fill
in data to learn how to use function formulas by doing
sample problems. Use of white board to show
examples for story problems . Must type in the correct
commands to get correct answer.

Practice

Open up the next folder and students fill out


questions by using short cuts . Type SUM every
function has a name, find the average ,type it in, press
tab, control shift arrow . MIn next, showing the most
common function to use. Press tab . Next MODE, then
ROUND, students use these to answer the questions
using the function formulas. Mr. Gayan shows the
learning target and performance tasks for students to
comprehension of function formulas to be utilized in
chapter 6 .
