University of Wisconsin-Platteville
Title of Artifact: 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament
Date Completed: 3/28/15
Describe Artifact:
My artifact is the 3 on 3 basketball fundraiser tournament that the Health and Human
Performance department held for the University. My team and I helped run the tournament on
March 28, 2015. We played a huge role in the communication department. My team and I were
responsible for contacting local high-schools, basketball teams, middle-schools, and
communities. We then traveled to local businesses and schools and passed out flyers and hung
posters for the event.
UW-Platteville Health Promotion Standard Alignment:
The health promotion standard that this artifact aligns with is Standard 1. Advocacy: The health
promoter understands, responds to, and interacts with the larger political, social, economic,
legal, and cultural context that affects health promotions. This artifact aligns with Standard 1,
because I was able to work with the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in running a fundraiser
event for the Health and Human Performance department. All the money made from the
fundraiser will be used and given back to the Health and Human Performance department to help
support the programs/clubs/sports that may be eliminated in the budget cut. Prior to running the
event, a lot of planning, organizing, and group meetings had to happen. This entailed speaking to
different sponsors, contacting local schools and teams, as well as promoting the event through
social media. The event also allowed for the community to get involved in a fun high intensity
exercise environment. This led to a very successful, professional event to be ran by my team and
I and the HHP department.
UW-Platteville School of Health/Education Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement Alignment:
My artifact aligns with Domain 4: KSD4.d. Contributes to the community. The candidate is able
to assume a leadership role among colleagues and is supportive and cooperative with peers and
volunteers, and serves as a participant and leader in the community. I believe my artifact aligns
best with KSD4.d. because as a team we were able to reach out to the community, colleagues,
and neighboring towns to put together a very successful fundraiser for the University of
Wisconsin-Platteville in the 3 on 3 basketball tournament. From advertising our event on social
media, in flyers, handouts, and posters we were able to bring the community together in for a
fitness event that benefited themselves as well as the university.
What you learned about Health Promotion from this experience:

From this artifact, I learned the importance of organization, planning, and promoting. This
artifact has allowed me to experience the amount of work and responsibilities that goes into a
public event from my hands on duties. This experience has also allowed me to improve my skills
in communication, leadership, and teamwork.
Explain what you learned about yourself as a prospective Health Promotion specialist as a result
of this experience:
What I learned as a health promotion specialist from my experience is that communication is an
important skill to be proficient in. Being able to communicate properly and professionally has
helped my team and I set up and run a successful fundraiser for the University of WisconsinPlatteville. From this experience I have grown professionally as a health promoter.
