Artifact Reflection
Sun Exposure Mini-Unit / Homeschool Lesson Plan/ TGMD Letter to
parents
Spring and Fall 2014

Describe your educational experience/artifact:

The educational experience that I am using for this standard is my Sun Exposure Mini-Unit
completed in my Environmental Health Seminar course and my reflection from Westview Wellness days.
This Mini-Unit project incorporated working with a team of our classmates to complete a Mini-Unit plan
for a high school class. During the homeschool lesson I worked together with classmates to create a 50
minute lesson on cooperative activities. The Mini-Unit plan includes a three day lesson which consists of
a WebQuest, worksheet/PowerPoint and PSA presentations. We then completed copious amounts of
research to help decide the path we would take while teaching the unit. To conclude this project we put
together a quiz based off of materials taught within the lesson and we also had the students take post
assessment to assess what they learned throughout this course. The WebQuest on sun exposure is going to
be my artifact for this educational experience. I also had the opportunity to write a letter home to a parent
discussing a students results on TGMD. Within this letter a talked about both the students positive and
negative development.
Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment

I believe this artifacts best aligns with Standard 10 Collaboration. Standard 10 of the
Wisconsin Teacher Development and Licensure Standards states: Teachers are connected with
other teachers and the community. The teacher fosters relationships with school colleagues,
parents and agencies in the larger community to support students learning and well-being.
While working on this Unit plan I was asked to work with two of my classmates, throughout this
process I was able to collaborate with my colleagues to complete an assignment. During the
homeschool lesson I worked together with three other classmates to give the students the best
learning environment possible. Both of these projects involved multiple meeting times, in order
to complete these projects we had to work proficiently with each other and stay on task. This
artifact gave me the experience to work with my peers to complete a variety of tasks and a
WebQuest that is going to be beneficial for my future teaching experiences.

UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skills, Dispositions Alignment

I believe these artifacts align with KSD4.d, which states: The candidate is able to
assume a leadership role among colleagues and is supportive and cooperative with peers and
volunteers, and serves as a participant and leader in school events and district projects. I
believe this artifact gave everyone a specific goal that needed to be completed as a team. Each
one of us took on a separate leadership role by accomplishing our specific section of the unit and
lesson plan. We as a team had to work diligently with one another to ensure the project was done
in a timely manner. I believe our group worked very well together and my colleagues were very
professional when finishing the tasks at hand. This artifact showed me how to be a better leader
while cooperating with my peers.
I believe these artifacts also align with KSD4.e: Grows and Develops Professionally,
which states: The candidate is aware of opportunities for professional development to improve
content knowledge and pedagogical skill and can take an active role in assisting other
educators. These artifacts helped me grow as a professional health educator in a real classroom
environment. I also worked with other professional educators were we helped each other to
develop a new set of skills for our future in education.

I believe these artifacts also align with KSD4.c. COMMUNICATES WITH FAMILIES
Aligns with WSTDL 10 The candidate is able to provide frequent, sensitive and appropriate
information to parents and students about students' positive and negative progress within the
instructional program and successfully engages families in the educational process when
appropriate. These artifacts gave me a chance to communicate with a family about their childs
results on a TGMD test. Within these tests basic activities took place such as running, leaping
and dribbling. I then explained the students overall performance and what percentile they fell
under to give the parents a better understanding of the test.
I believe these artifacts also align with KS2.e. ORGANIZES PHYSICAL SPACE The
candidate has the ability to establish a classroom environment that is safe. Physical resources
will be arranged to best serve the teacher and student in providing productive learning for all
students. These artifacts helped me stay organized with my spacing within the gymnasium.
With the help of my classmates we were able to setup an environment that was not only safe but
fun for the homeschoolers. The resources that the college provided us with were used
productively to create a positive physical education experience.
Explain what you learned about teaching/learning from this experience:

Within these experiences, I discovered how important it is to work collaboratively with

my peers and how beneficial it can be when we all share an equal part. I also learned how
significant it is to create relationships with my peers to have a better understanding of how they
work. It takes a lot of time to put together a unit that you are not to relatively knowledgeable
about. For this unit plan to be successful, we needed to work proficiently, communicate with
each other and stay task oriented complete our goal. Becoming a teacher means you need to feel
comfortable while talking with others and I believe our group did an excellent job of
communicating with input and goals that needed to be completed.
Explain what you learned about yourself as a prospective educator as a result of this
experience/artifact:

Throughout these experiences, Ive learned that I work very well with my peers to
accomplish tasks in a timely manner. I will be able to use these communication and leadership
skills that I have learned in future classrooms. I realize that this experience has helped me
improve my communication skills with my peers as well as develop my professionalism in the
classroom setting. With this experience I have improved my collaboration and communication
skills, but they can still use some fine tuning and with this project under my belt I can only hope
to prosper from here on out.
