Slide 1: Title Slide
Sammy: Hi, Im Sammy Quiroz (others introduce themselves too) and were here to
talk to you today about the effects the population problem has on the earths land.
The earths population is currently just over seven billion, but growing exponentially.
Slide 2: US population growth graph
The picture on the board right now demonstrates the population growth in the
United States since 1790. As you can see, the population of our country is growing
rapidly. This growth can be both good and bad. The population growth is good for
our country because it shows us that people feel economically secure enough to
start a family and have children. These children are future consumers of America
and will join the workforce later in their lives, which will greatly boost the economy.
A negative aspect of this population growth is that these children will need a place
to live and food to eat. Our country will have to provide homes and food for a whole
new generation. Farming and excessive use of the land will result in more and more
arable land throughout our country.
Slide 3: World Wide population growth graph
Looking at this graph, you can see that the population is not only growing in the
United States, but all over the world. Developing countries have had a much greater
increase than industrialized countries. This is because in countries like Mexico and
China, parents have children to help them survive. When the children get older,
they too will help farm the land and provide food for their family. Industrialized
countries have had a more stable population growth because people in developed
countries have children because they want to, not because they have to.
Slide 4: Arable Land Chart
As shown in this picture, the amount of arable land per person has decreased
significantly over time. Because of our growing population, we are excessively using
the land and are draining it of its nutrients. If our population growth continues as it
is right now, most of our land in the future will no longer be arable and available for
us to use.

Slide 8: Desolate Field
An effect of the population problem on the globe is a newfound lack of arable land.
As our population grows, more food is needed to provide for new people. If we do
not come up with a solution to the global population problem more and more areas
across the globe will end up looking like this one.
