Classroom Needs: What are your concerns about the class as a whole? What do you
wonder?
The class has some very immature students. The attention span is quite weak.
This causes the room to become noisy and sometimes too high of energy. There
are a lot of diverse needs within the classroom. It can sometimes be a stretch to
attend all students. This causes some tension and not necessarily supportive
attitudes.
Goals: What are your main goals this year? (These goals may be based on the
strengths and/or concerns, or on an area of interest, or a new grade level or new
curriculum. Each teacher may have three or four.)
There are three goals set in place for this class over the year
1. To continue to recognize the need for all to self-regulate.
2. For students to gain independence in their learning
3. To have students respect the space of their learning.
Decisions: What decisions will you make based on the information gathered?
-Focus on keeping the students engaged: interactive activities, relevant
examples, multiple learning styles, brain breaks, and group discussions
-Set higher expectations for their produced work

SUMMARIZE THE MOST IMPORTANT IMPLICATIONS THAT YOU DRAW FROM THIS
ASSESSMENT THAT WILL BE OF CRITICAL IMPORTANCE TO YOUR PLANNING AND
TEACHING.
This assessment has helped me understand and organize everything I have observed since
the beginning of practicum. By learning critical information about the school and
community, I felt more comfortable and aware of my surroundings. After learning the
classroom procedures, I became more familiar with how the day was run and how the
students responded to it. Focusing on this information opened the doors to creating a
stronger relationship with my sponsor teacher and students.
With our classroom relationship forming, I found it very helpful to look at each child and
assess them individually. This was a time I could focus completely on their strengths and
weaknesses without the information being confused with other students. Now when I
teach a lesson, I feel I can assess them more accurately based on the information gathered
here. I also feel I can better accommodate certain students and plan ahead for this.
Focusing on the strengths of the classroom was useful because I often dwell on the
negative aspects of the group when planning lessons. This reminded me how great these
children are and that I need to find ways to showcase their assets. With all the
information gathered, I feel I will make better decisions on how I will plan and teach the
students.
