To Whom It May Concern;
It is a pleasure to write a letter of recommendation for Jessica Da Costa. I have known Jessica since August
2014. She is a student in my Child Development class at Merced High School. As a student, Jessica demonstrates
many qualities that will enable her to be successful. She is attentive and follows directions well. She completes all her
assignments in a timely manner. She works well on both individual and group projects. She participates in class
consistently.
Jessica is involved in various student organizations on campus. She has been on the cheer squad for the last two
years. She has been a member of FFA throughout all four years. Through this student organization she has learned
leadership skills, responsibility, teamwork and dedication. She has earned the FFA Greenhand Degree which requires
the member to meet specific requirements including a Code of Ethics. She has also earned an FFA Chapter Degree,
this degree is in addition to the Greenhand Degree. A chapters top members are awarded this degree if they meet
additional criteria, such as a satisfactory academic record, leadership qualities and activities, community service
hours. Jessica has been awarded the Horse Judging Team Award her sophomore and junior years. This is a group
event and an individual event; as a group they earned 2nd place among 20 other competitors and she earned 5th
place among 30 other competitors.
Jessica has been in the AVID program for the last four years, which has helped her with her study habits, note taking
strategies, test taking skills, etc. AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a global nonprofit organization
dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary
opportunities. The programs philosophy is to hold students accountable to the highest standards, provide them with
academic and social support, and have confidence they will rise to the challenge.
Jessica was also in Key Club for two years. Key Club is a student-led organization which provides its members with
opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. She has assisted with fundraising and
community service. All of these extra-curricular activities require dedication, determination and teamwork. In addition
to her academics and involvement in extracurricular activities, Jessica has also maintained a part-time job at a local
fast food restaurant for the last eight months.
Jessica has set goals for her future. She is a determined and strong young lady. She plans on pursuing a degree in
Animal Science with a career goal of Veterinary Services. Overall, I believe she has the determination and study skills
that will enable her to succeed as she continues with her education. If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact me.

Sincerely,
