The student created a model of the human respiratory system using common household materials. A plastic container represented the torso, with two balloons attached to straws inserted through the bottom to mimic lungs. When the balloons were squeezed, air was forced into the container through the straws, simulating breathing. The model demonstrated the basic function of how lungs draw in air and expel carbon dioxide.
