We are a group of 11 year old students at an
international school studying Child Obesity in
Germany. Due to the fact that we attend an
international school, our approach to all topics is
more global.
This explains why we divided our project-group.
Hence part of us is concentrating on Child
Obesity in Germany (local connection) while the
other is working on Malnutrition in Africa
(internationl connection).

Definition:
Overweight and Obesity
are defined as abnormal or
excessive fat accumulation that
presents a risk to health.
OBESITY
Overweight and Obesity are measured by
the Body Mass Index (BMI):
A persons weight (kg) divided by his
or her height squared (m2).
A person with a BMI of 30 or more is
considered obese, from 25 - 30 is
considered overweight and under 19 is
considered underweight.
Overweight and Obesity are major risk
factors for a number of chronic diseases,
especially Diabetes.

Diabetes Type 1
Diabetes type 1 is usually diagnosed by young children. In this type of Diabetes, the Body does
not produce Insulin.

Diabetes type 2 is the most common type of Diabetes. It is when your body does not use Insulin
properly, which is called Insulin resistence.

Glucose is basically a sugar mollicule stored in the liver. It gives us power, but too much

The Glycemic Index is a tool that measures how much Glucose gets produced in your body
after being injected in a short period of time.

Insulin is a Hormone created by the betacells in the pancreas. It is the one that Carries the
Glucose (Sugar) to the cells, opens the doors to them and finally lets the Glucose inside.

A low self esteem is when somebody is shy, insecure, depressed and negative. It is mostly an
effect of getting bullied.
