Atlanta City Council approves an ordinance by City Councilmember C.T. Martin to
rename Spring Street, from Whitehall, S.W. to West Peachtree Street, N.W. to
Ted Turner Drive at Historic Spring Street
ATLANTA The Atlanta City Council approved an ordinance Monday to rename a portion of
Spring Street after entrepreneur and media mogul Ted Turner.
The ordinance, introduced by Councilmember C.T. Martin, was approved by a vote of 9-3. The
portion of Spring Street between Whitehall Street and West Peachtree Street is near the area
where Turner established some of his more well-known business endeavors, TBS, the CNN
Center and Teds Montana Grill.
Ted Turner is truly an indelible part of the fabric of Atlanta and someone who has put not only
his money but his heart and soul in putting Atlanta on the global landscape, Martin said.
As a philanthropist, Turner is known for his $1 billion gift to support the United Nations, which
created the United Nations Foundation, a public charity to broaden support for the UN. Turner
serves as Chairman of the United Nations Foundation board of directors.
