I would like to introduce to you Sheryl Cranch, a student in my Academic Physics course at DuBois Area High School. I have known Sheryl for roughly eight months, and through this association, she has proven to be a hard-working student. In class, Sheryl is not afraid to participate in discussions and to help other students. She is always one of the first students done with her work, and she wisely uses her class time. If she is given a homework assignment, it will usually be completed by the next day even if it is not due for a week. Through laboratory activities, Sheryl has proven to be a team player. I know I can place her with any group of students because she works well with just about every person in the class. Her sense of humor is definitely a strength that helps her to not only communicate with her peers, but allows them to feel comfortable around her. We are currently working on a project in which the students have to design and build a bridge from balsa wood. The goal is to get the best efficiency out of the bridge which is determined by how much weight it holds divided by the weight of the bridge itself. Before they begin designing their own bridge, groups are asked to build a practice truss which is essentially one side of a balsa wood bridge. Sheryl and her partner had the best practice truss in their class in terms of the weight it held and I am looking forward to seeing their full scale bridge. Sheryl also took charge of pouring the sand to test other groups practice trusses and was a huge help during the process. I feel that these character traits of being helpful and having a good sense of humor will be important for her as she works to pursue a career in nursing. Outside of class, Sheryl has been involved with the MS Walk, Special Olympics, Eat Right, Project DAHS and she runs passes for the principals. Sheryl works part-time and the local Martins Food Market and babysits. Even though she has a busy schedule, Sheryl has made the B Honor Roll for years. I would highly recommend Sheryl Cranch for a nursing program. I believe her work ethic and sense of humor will be an asset to any medical facility. Sincerely,
