Competencies Reflection

Domain I School Community Leadership

Competency 001 The principal knows how to shape campus culture by facilitating the
development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared
and support by the school community.
Reflection
This competency is the most significant because it includes aspects from each of the other
competencies. Creating a campus culture includes setting high expectations, promoting learning,
and providing intellectual stimulation for self students and staff. Parents must be included in
creating a campus culture because relationship and collaboration are key concepts in this
competency. Responding to diverse needs and using various types of information improves
decision making efficiency. Additionally, student needs and data enable a detailed school
improvement plan that can help achieve the vision.
How competencies enhanced knowledge gained though my administrative experiences.

meetings and how the objectives and strategies supported achieving the campus vision. W
addressed finances, human and material resources that also support the campus vision. Our
principal is very organized and establishes procedures to ensure achievement of the vision. She
allows teachers to voice their opinions and concerns during PLCs. She supports the PTO
meetings by allowing parents on campus to raise funds. She gives praises and celebrates
accomplishments of faculty and staff. She does an outstanding job with making everyone feel
important and involves.
Competency 002
The principal knows how to communicate and collaborate with all members of the school
community, respond the diverse interests and needs, and mobilize resources to promote students
success.
This competency includes the principals ability to communicate effectively with each
educational stakeholder, manage conflict, and gathering input from all campus stakeholders.
External and internal forms of communication require an efficient system to get information out
to multiple constituents. We practice lockdown and fire drills; additionally, we practice
procedures for cafeteria behavior, use of restrooms, and hallway expectations.
A critical time to communicate effectively is during bad weather and school has been cancelled.
We used a fan-out system of calling teachers and establish partnership with parents and

businesses in the community to support campus goals. Our principal supports all programs. Its
obvious as she addresses issues in our SDMC meetings. She places emphasis
