TGMD & IEP Report, High School Fitness Quiz, Soccer Knowledge
Test
Fall 2014 / Spring 2015

Describe your educational experience/artifact:

The educational experience I chose three different artifacts to use for this standard to better show
my understanding in assessing students. My first artifact that I am using for this standard is a TGMD test,
during the last couple of years I've had the chance to use the TGMD assessment with some of the students
I was teaching. This TGMD assessment took place at one of the locations I am using for my pre-student
teaching. For my second artifact I chose a fitness quiz I created for my high school students during my
student teaching experience at Lancaster High School. This is an example of evaluating using a formal
assessment for my students. This quiz was a review of understanding physical fitness components as well
being able to decipher how specific activities may improve performance. Within this fitness unit there
were many other opportunities for assessing student outcome as I had the students use both pedometers
and locate their target heart rate. For my last artifact I chose a cognitive soccer knowledge test which was
also used during my student teaching experience. This test was a review of all the basic concepts and
rules one would learn while playing the game of soccer.

.
Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment

I believe these artifacts best align with Standard 8: Assessment teacher know how to
test for student progress. Standard 8 of the Wisconsin Teacher Development and Licensure
Standards states: The teacher understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies
to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and physical development of the pupil.
Teachers know how to test for student progress. I chose these artifacts for teaching standard
eight because I believe they show competence in providing proper assessment to students. Within
my first artifact I have the opportunity to assess a variety of locomotor skills such as leaping,
galloping, jumping and sliding. The second artifacts assesses how well my high school students
understood the five components of physical fitness and how to integrate them into improving
their favorite sports. For the last artifact I used a variety of terms and situations related to playing
a common game of soccer.

UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skills, Dispositions Alignment

I believe these artifacts align with KSD1.f. ASSESSES STUDENT LEARNING Aligns
with WSTDL 8 The candidate understands, is committed to, and can develop assessments that
are clearly stated and congruent with instructional goals. The students are aware of how they
are meeting the established standards and are involved in the goal setting process. I aligned
this KSD with standard 8 because I believe these artifacts show proof of clear instructional goals.
It is very important for a teacher to be able to assess students with formal and informal
assessments to better understand their overall knowledge of the subject. The teacher should be
able to use a variety of ways to assess students to make sure they are fulfilling the objectives set
in class.
Explain what you learned about teaching/learning from this experience:

These experiences have taught me that assessment is a very important tool within the
teaching field. Using assessments can help push students to work harder the next time around
and it can also help me as the teacher to create new goals for future students. This opportunity

also gave me a chance to determine if it is easier for me to use informal or formal assessments
with my students. This experience was very beneficial because it reminded me that students may
be at many different skill levels, but I need to work my best to create goals for all of my students
that can give them an opportunity to push past their old limits.
Explain what you learned about yourself as a prospective educator as a result of this
experience/artifact:

Throughout these experiences, Ive learned that assessment can be just as beneficial for
me as it is for my students. Assessments help understand where the bar needs to be set or if the
bar is too high and things need to be adjusted. This experience has helped me improve by making
valuable instructional goals for my students, Ive discovered that the more I assess my students,
the more it will help me become a future successful educator.
