Interview Protocol for a Post-conference (Reflection Conference)

1) In general, how successful was the lesson? Did the students learn what you intended for them to learn?
How do you know?
Overall, I feel that the lesson went generally well. The students were able to leave the lesson with the
ability to identify the letter /S/ and the sound it makes during the context of the lesson. The students will
continue to build upon this skill throughout the week.
2) If you were able to bring samples of student work, what do those samples reveal about those students
levels of engagement and understanding of what was taught?
My student samples reveal that the students were engaged throughout the lesson. The work is completed
to the best of their abilities. My students work samples also show that some students are ready to move
past the initial sound of /s/ and begin to blend /s/ words. While other students in the class need to be
pulled for some letter /s/ intervention this week to continue their skills.
3) Comment on your classroom procedures, student conduct, and your grouping decisions. To what extent
did these contribute to student learning?
I feel that my classroom procedures are flowing nicely for the first few months of Kindergarten. My
students also have a great understanding of the classroom rules and expectations. The lesson was able to
flow smoothly even when technology failed because my students were able to stay controlled in the
situation.
4) Did you depart from your plans? If so, how and why?
During the lesson it was necessary for me to discard the /S/ video due to connection issues. At this time I
choose to play just the music and dance with the students so as not to waste anymore instruction time,
but still give students the opportunity to move about. I also did not have students clean up before
introducing the High Frequency word due to time management. The students also returned from lunch at
which time I modeled and they completed P. 44 of their worksheet because we ran out of time.
5) Comment on different aspects of your instructional delivery (e.g., activities, techniques, materials,
resources). To what extent were they effective?

The worksheet differentiation that was recommended to me was very helpful. I found that it kept me
from having students finish extremely early, and also challenged the students to work to improve their
individual levels.

6) If you had an opportunity to teach this lesson again to the same group of students, would you do
anything differently?
I might modify the worksheet so that the students only are completing half the work. This way the
assessment is brief and to the point, and will help with the time management. ..
