Book Review
Section 1
I read Animal Farm by George Orwell. My copy of the book was published by
Signet Classics in 1996. It contained 144 pages. In Animal Farm, an old boar named Old
Manor held a meeting comparing humans to parasites. When he died three days later, two
pigs by the name of Snowball and Napoleon attempted to turn his dream into a
philosophy.
The animals revolted and drove Mr. Jones, the farmer, out of Manor Farm. Then,
they renamed the Manor Farm to Animal Farm. Seven commandments were written on
the wall of the wall. The most important of all was "All animals are equal." The farm ran
smoothly until the Mr. Jones tried retaking it. He was defeated by the animals in the
Battle of Cowshed.
Snowball proposed an idea for a windmill but Napoleon rejected it. He later
drove Snowball out of Animal Farm. Napoleon lied saying Snowball stole his idea for a
windmill. The animals built the windmill only to find it destroyed after a violent storm.
Snowball was blamed for the destruction of the windmill. Napoleon began killing off any
animals he suspected to have a connection to Snowball after that.
Napoleon abused his power making life hard for the animals. Boxer, a horse, got
injured from a battle with a neighboring farmer. He was mistakenly sent to a glue factory.
Years went by and the animals became more like humans. They drank whiskey, slept on
beds, walked on two legs, and wore clothes. The seven commandments was reduced to
just one rule, "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."
Section 2
Old Major was an old and wise boar. Snowball was a fair pig who praised Old
Majors ways. Napoleon, however, was a tyrant who lied and strived for leadership.
Boxer was a loyal and kind horse who followed the rules of the farm. The story took
place on a farm in the 1900s. The setting did not serve much importance in the story,
though.
Section 3
I really enjoyed Animal Farm. It was a great novella. George Orwell did a great
job of showing how a country could be overtaken and corrupted by an evil dictator. I also
found the end result of the rules quite humorous. I would recommend this book to
anybody who would enjoy reading a good classic. The book was not too long and it had a
meaningful lesson.
