Le message du jour (The Message of the Day)

New Brunswick Curriculum Outcomes


Oral Communication:
Participate in classroom routines conducted in French using phrases and expressions that are
useful in many different situations (e.g., asking for repetition, clarification, position,
direction)
Relate personal experiences with some understanding of the present, past and future, and
express feelings
Reading and Viewing:
Regard reading/viewing as sources of interest, enjoyment and information
Use, with support, a combination of cues (semantic, syntactic, and pragmatic) and a variety
of strategies to construct meaning from text
Identify the main ideas and some supporting details in texts containing familiar and some
unfamiliar vocabulary
Read orally demonstrating correct sound/symbol relationships, and good intonation and
appropriate phrasing reflecting an overall comprehension of the text
Content to be taught
Students will strengthen their French oral skills, as well as their French vocabulary by reading
the daily message.
Prior knowledge
The majority of the students will be able to recognize some vocabulary and sounds that have
been previously taught. They will also know the current date used (ex: Le mardi 4 novembre,
2014). The majority of the students will also have prior knowledge on seasons and current
temperature.
Materials
- 23 handouts of Le message du jour.
- The SmartBoard, as well as the activity saved as a notebook on the SmartBoard.
- Students will need their own blue, green, black, and red markers.
Teacher preparation
The teacher must have Le message du jour already posted in the SmartBoard notebook
activity.
Print the handouts (23).

Set a timer and tell the students (this


will help keep them on track)

Engagement/Opening:
Students will say yesterdays date.
Another student, chosen at random form
clothing pin bin, will say todays date.
Another student will say tomorrows date.
Another student will write todays date on the
board.
(We wont cover wind and temperature)
A student will show and say the season.

Demonstrate yesterdays date (in


French) using the calendar, then today
and tomorrows date.
Ex: Aujourdhui cest mardi le 4
novembre, 2014
Pick name from bin at random.
Help students complete their sentences
if needed.

Students will place their sheet in their duo tang.
