Directions: Include an Entry Form for each artifact and respond to the following prompts.
Question 1: What is the artifact? Identify the artifact (case study, PowerPoint presentation, field evaluation,
lesson plan, unit, video, literature review, or other) and give a brief narrative description.
The artifact chosen for standard two is a PowerPoint and guided notes sheet that I made for a particular
lesson over the atmosphere. The PowerPoint is approximately eighteen slides. To go along with the
PowerPoint, I made a guided notes packet that outlined the entire slide show. The students were to fill in the
information as you go through the presentation.
Question 2: How does the artifact relate to the OSTP standard? Use language of the standard to explain how
it relates.
The artifact relates to the standard because it shows I have a good understanding of the content area I teach.
Instead of using someone elses presentation, I was able to create my own. All the information in the
PowerPoint goes hand and hand with the Ohio Department of Educations standards for seventh grade
science and the student learning objectives given by the school. A lot of the slides had pictures or examples
on them to connect the content to other content areas as well as their real lives.
Question 3: What have you learned from the artifact experience that will make you a better teacher in the
future?
One thing that I learned that will make me a better teacher in the future is to have the students make
connections. If you can connect the material to some relevant in their lives or something they are working on
in another class they will have a much better understanding of the content. A lot of what they are interested
in and what they know is based off their prior knowledge. If you can connect their prior knowledge and
experiences with the new material then you can get the kids excited about the content and excited about
learning. The more excited they are, the more questions they will ask. It is extremely important to know
your content area so you can answer those questions.
