EDUC 202 Examining Teaching Practices
students name:

Cara Nahra

todays date:
cooperating teacher:

Ms.Ortiz

grade level/subject:

1st grade

objective of observation:

to see what ways of teaching are prevalent in a class

Directions:

Prior to the observation, read over the items below. These items represent various teaching
practices used to accommodate different learning styles of students. During and after the
observation, put an X next ot those items you observe(d)

Visual

writes directions on board as well as giving them

orally
uses flash cards, printed in bold letters

gives a written copy of board work if student has
difficulty copying
uses videos, DVDs, CDs, etc.

make a display instead of written reports

PowerPoint, Prezi, PhotoStory, MovieMaker, etc)
allows students to use computers and calculators
uses role playing and simulations
provides opportunities for movement, games,
activities, etc.

In the space below, please reflect upon your observation. What did you learn about this teachers
incorporation of different activities that catered to various learning styles? How did this help or hurt the
students? What techniques would you use in your own classroom? What would you change to enhance the
learning?

I learned that the way my teacher incorporates different types of learning for different learning
styles makes the subject and lesson easy to be reached by all types of people. This is whether or
not students learn better kinestically, auditory, visual, or even a mix of them. This helped
students by making things or ideas click and makes them use critical thinking skills. In my own
classroom I would write the directions on a board or on a sheet and I would say them auditorily .
Also I would include hands on activities such as maps or a graph that will help explain or guide
a reading or a lesson that is being taught or reviewed that day. What I would change to make it
more effective or enhance the learning would be that I would include a choice for activities this
way the students can choose something that still shows that they understand the concepts but
cater it to the way that the student best understands.
