Internship at NML, (Bhikki)

Brief Introduction of the Organization


Nishat Mills Limited is the flagship company of Nishat Group. It was established in 1951. It is one of
the most modern, largest vertically integrated textile company in Pakistan. Nishat Mills Limited
has 198,120 spindles, 655 Toyota air jet looms. The Company also has the most modern textile
dyeing and processing units, 2 stitching units for home texitle, one stitching unit for garments and
Power Generation facilities with a capacity of 89 MW. The Companys total export for the year
2011 was Rs. 36.015 billion (US$ 416 million). Due to the application of prudent management
policies, consolidation of operations, a strong balance sheet and an effective marketing strategy,
the growth trend is expected to continue in the years to come. The Company's production
facilities comprise of spinning, weaving, processing, stitching and power generation.

Training Program
During my internship at NML I have learned much more and try to

complete all the assignments which were given to me.


My first assignment which was given to me a bill of a transport co and I
have to check whether it has all supporting documents and relevent
stamps on it. This truck has to receive from Nishat Mills Limited (spinning
unit) Faisalabad to NML Bhikki. I have checked the bility no of transport
co. Awaisia, number of bags , all relevant stamp of NML, Challan form
and cross verified all detail on relevent supporting documents. Then I
checked the Gate pass, weight and transfer this to store room for further
processing.
In account department, I perform the reconciliation of bank statement.
In Human resource department, I perform the working regarding
attendance , new hiring & firing of employees.
In payroll section, I perform the working regarding salaries, provident
fund, welfare fund and how to calculate average days of working and
how can I reconcile it with HR department.

Strength:
The major strength of Nishat is that its ideal location in the

heart of Faisalabad. Faisalabad is famous for textile sector all


over the world.
Availability of cheap labor and technical expertise and high
quality machinery gives Nishat a strong position market.
NTML is part of Nishat groups that provides opportunity to
produce own raw material provide financial assistance and
good management that results confidence of customers,
efficient working of NTM and cheaper products.
Good quality control system, ISO certified make good
reputation of Nishat and provide the big renowned long term
customer to the company.

Weaknesses:
NTML is using centralized management decision making that

burden the management and results inefficiency.


If imported machinery or any part went out of order then takes
time to correct it that results suffer in productivity, time and
cost.
High salaries of management and low salaries of workers
create ethical issues that results high turnover of workers and
reduce motivation.
NML is paying at the normal wage rate for overtime while the
overtime rate is always high in all the organizations. Lack of
planned HR structure.

Opportunities:
Due to WTO establishment and fulfilling all its

requirements brings opportunity of economies of scale


and conduct international business.
ISO 14000 certification improve image of Nishat and
brings international market.
Have capacity to expand in terms of products and
markets.

Threats:
Globally Economic instability create problem that

includes dumping. After 9/11 fore nor never prefer


Pakistan products.
Political insatiability create safety threat for firm
Buyer demands is changing day by day that requires
innovation but Nishat does not have that research.

The allocation of funds of NML is done mainly in textile sector and also
paying attention on other sectors like Cement, Insurance and banking
etc.

In Nishat mills limited the decisions are made on centralized base like
decision of new projects and allocation of funds in big projects. But
most of the system of management and allocation of sources is done
at lower level.

Work specialization:
The working force of NML is very hardworking and devoted in
doing their work. They are experts and ready to do their works.
HR Department:
Employees recruitment and selection:
In this Department of NML the selection and recruitment of
employees is done on 1st of every month to 18th of every month
and after hiring of employees they are sent to Training section.
Training and development:
Three days training period is given to employees and when they
perform their job in a good way and maintain a good
environment they are developed by a new job.

Conclusion
Nishat Mills Limited is one of the leading groups in

Pakistan. The system of working, management, labors


training, policies and other important aspects of NML make
this as the leading textile mill in Pakistan.
The technology and information of market is considered as
the key areas of success of a business. But in NML these
areas are poor to some extent.
The main points where this mill has to pay attention is the
advertisement, allocation of funds in a proper way and try to
gain more market share at national and at international
level.
The management of this mill is always ready to face the
challenges; it is always ready to take new and new projects
and orders. The Soundness and sharpness of employees is
really appreciating for the success of this mill.

Recommendations
Incentives more and more and to all employees whether
they are engaged in production or not, incentives must be
given.
Different training courses must be provided to all the
employees for better results.
There should not be working overload on employees.
Employees should pay for extra work and for best work.
Medical facilities must be given to management also not
only to labors.
