It was simply what seemed sensible for me to write after the war when

everyone was thanking God they werent Nazis. Id seen enough to realize
that every single one of us could be Nazis.
-William Golding
All humans have their own version of evil within them. During World War II, many
people were killed by Nazis. Anne Frank and her family lived in a Secret Annex, to escape the
German Warfare disguised by young men. It is no secret to anyone who knows about World War
II and Nazi Germany, that many people were killed. William Golding writes,When everyone
was thanking God they werent Nazis, regarding Nazi Germany during the time of World War
II. This quote challenges itself; after the war, the Nazis did not automatically disappear.
Everyone was thanking God that they were not Nazis. However, after the war, people still
were. Everyone, in the aforementioned quote, did not pertain to everyone. This quote challenges
itself as does its subject- human nature. After the war, people still hated Jewish people. People
still hated homosexuals. People still thought Blonde Hair and Blue Eyes were superior to the
rest. When the war ended, the thoughts that sparked the killing of innocent people inside (and
outside) Concentration Camps still existed. Anne Frank was not hiding from Nazis, she was
hiding from people. The Nazis were people too; Anne Frank was a person, and so was Hitler.
Everyone, during this time, recognized that Nazis represented the evil in the world. However,
often times people disguise evil with doing good that we fail to miss and in turn let destruction
reign on humanity.
Nazis are not the people that have ever killed anyone. People are killed every day by other
people. Brothers kill their brothers. The Holocaust was a brutal and scary time for many people.
When World War II ended, the evils of the world did not disappear. Bullets are still fired and
people still cry. Golding writes that he had seen enough to realize that every single one of us
could be Nazis. The thoughts that sparked the mass killings of many people still exist in this
world today. Humans have thoughts, as did Hitler. We can thank God that we are not Nazis,
but it does not guarantee our salvation, our safety, our life. It does not even guarantee that we are
a good person. It may mean that we are not a bad person, but it does not make us good. My point
is, every time we as people compromise the well-being of another, our neighbor, we portray
characteristics of a Nazi; we inflict harm to others which, in turn, promotes a world with more
suffering and less happiness. All of us have the capabilities to physically (or emotionally) hurt
another human being. Bullying causes death before life. Terror before peace. What we as a
people chose to advocate for The truth is, many of us already have. Every single one of us could
be Nazis.
The Lord of the Flies portrays Nazi Germany in the sense of savagery outliving civilization.
Germany was civilized but upon the rise of dictator fascist Hitler, the nation propelled
backwards into terror and uncivilized chaos. Ralph and Jack battled for leadership amongst a
group of civilized children in an uncivilized group. Death and chaos were caused as a result of
this massive battle. Nazi Germany stood for all uncivilized societies whose leadership brought
downfall to a part of the world. At the time in both the book and the Holocaust, no one really
knew what was right and what was wrong. They just knew leadership was needed and they did

not know how to control the masses. The meaning of life changes when it comes to death and
chaos. The meaning of life is no longer money and trivial pursuits. The meaning of life is life and
survival. When a group of people are treated less than in a humane fashion, downfall is brought
to that nation- to treat a person with disrespect and indignity is to treat yourself in the same way.
