Intervals

Step 1 - Count the distance using the lowest note of the interval.
Step 2 - Check if the higher note is in the major scale of the lower note. YES - then its Maj or Perf.
Step 3 - If NO - then its Minor or Aug, dble aug, Dim or dbl dim. You nd this from knowing the
major scale note in that interval and seeing how its been changed.

& #

The important thing to remember is that we always count the distance in numbers rst.

&

This interval is a Maj 6th,

its from the major scale.

This interval is still a 6th in distance

but it is now an augmented 6th.

17

Doubly augemented is still the same distance in numbers but it has been raised twice.

b

This is a P 5th.
This is still a 5th if we count the distance, but
the sharp makes the 5th doubly augmented.

Any interval can be diminished by lowering it by a half step and doubly dim by lowering a tone.

This interval is a Maj 6th.

This is still the distance of a 6th but now it is

a Dim 6th.

28

&
This interval is a P 5th.

The distance is still a 5th but the double at

lowers it by two semitones making it doubly
diminshed interval. Dble Dim 5th.
