Introduce what we will be doing today: Multiplication
Dominos (1-2 minutes)
Explain what the idea of the dominos activity will be.
General Idea: Is each student will try to complete as
many dominos as they can in the allowed time frame.
Allow a minute for questions from students (1-2
minutes)
Time allowed: 3-5 minutes
Re-explain what the dominos are for (ask a student to
repeat the instructions that were given) (1 minute)
Complete worksheet (7-8 minutes) Depending on
questions
Make sure students know that each worksheet is to be
completed individually but you can work collaboratively
with peers around you.
To Reconvene put your hand up in the air and start
counting down from 10 and students will know that its
time to stop and we will move on to closure.
Time allowed: 7-9 minutes
Do a quick review of some dominos that you have on
your front table (2 minute)
What are some strategies you used when multiplying
(counting on fingers, skip counting, repeated addition,
groups, arrays, etc.) (1 minute)
ONLY if time permitted, have some dominos already on
the board for kids to recap with (If SMART board is
working have blank worksheet up and have more
examples to work with), or if some students finish early
ask them to come up and do one or two on the board
with them OR work with a partner to complete more
dominos.
Time allowed: 3 minutes
