As engagement I brought a
basket full of materials and asked
students to count how many we
have from each material and
then we wrote it by tally marks.
Then I asked them to move and
collect data about what is there
favorite color of M&ms chocolate
and then they draw the
frequency table.

They were excited and they


liked the activity so much.
They finished it so soon
because they wanted to eat
the chocolate.

Unit 5
Adding and
subtracting

Add and
subtract a
multiple of 10
and from a 2digit number.

I made a small review by asking


them some thinking questions
and they had to answer it by
themselves first and then share
it.
At the core of the lesson I
clarified that when we subtract a
multiple of 10 from a 2-digit
number we move backward using
the number line and we have to
put the big number on the right
side. After that I gave the
students more examples to
practice more. Finally I gave each
table a different work sheet
depending on their level.

Some students get confused


between adding and
subtracting especially low
students. So, I spent more
time with them to make
sure that they understand.
(This is was my lesson with
my MST , and she really
gave me good advices for
the next lessons)

Instructional
writing

Students will be
able to identify
the features of
instructional
writing.

I showed the students a mixed up


information (steps and tools) and
I told them a story about it. Then
I told them that I need someone
to help me in ordering it. They
were excited and we made a
quick review about what should
instructional writing includes. It
was obvious that they know it.
Finally I asked them to cut and
paste this writing in correct order.

This writing was about how


to make a dinner. So,
students liked it and they
read it carefully. Also they
asked me about what does
each name of food means.

Math

Unit 5
Adding and
subtracting

Students will be
able to add a
multiple of 10
to a 3-digit
numbers.

Students were setting on their


seats and we quickly reviewed
the multiples of 10.
Then I showed them the hundred
board with an example
(25+30=?) because they already
know that. They had to write the
answers on their white boards
and then show it. Most of them
were able to answer
independently.

I spent unforgettable time!

Going on in my practicing experiment and according to this short period, I


think that I am able to take a control of one class. Because practicing over
and over is an excellent tool which can help us to develop our teaching
methods. The positive thing that I learnt in my third week at school is that
I should set up my lesson plans perfectly before I do it. Also, I should
consider that many things could happen while I am teaching. For
instance, teaching math needs a very good and careful preparation
especially with primary students. Because, I want to make sure that the
questions which I am going to ask should be in the limit of my lesson
objective. I am really thankful to my teacher because she supported and
helped me in all my planning. Which incredibly made me more
comfortable in doing my lessons and to don't stumble during the lesson. I
believe that teaching Math to children can be simply easy because
according to what I observed in RAKESS school, the teachers over there
give the students a chance to use materials to help them to understand
math. Providing this kind of environment can be so helpful for students
because these strategies will promote their learning procedure and
scaffold it.
