Peeling Paint and Flaking Paintwork

The paint is fall of from the wall or the paint is not stick to wall.
The weather around that affected paint
The age of the paint is too old
Desktop study: Compile information on the defect in the building and
also check as built drawing. Determine extent of equipment and tools
needed for the investigation which is
On-site investigation: inspect the condition of building/element that have
been attack. Collect data on the peeling paint defect around the building.
Visual inspection
Use an eye as a medium, the equipment needed such as camera, to take
photo of evidence of defect of this building, rebound hammer to test the
strength the column, sling psychrometer, infrared thermometer to
determine the surface temperature.
From investigation, the building suffers from severe peeling problem. The
paint at the wall is fall off. Obviously paint can be seen on the wall
clearly fall off.

Paint at the wall is more serious on the outside of building as compared

to inside. This implies that the problem is caused by weather around of
the place. Result observation show that the wall outside of the building
has the highest percentage of peeling paint.
The main cause of peeling paint from wall is the age of the paint is to old.
Peelings of paint at wall create a side problem as it will affect the
aesthetics. For example, it will cultivate the growth of fungi in building
and many other more. Thus the problem should be taken seriously.
Detailed Method Statement for peeling paint defect (remedy):
1. The loose paint must be removed.
2. Then, use a fine grade of sandpaper to roughen the existing
paint on the wall.
3. A de-glosser is wiped across the wall, and then several paperthin coats of drywall compound can be applied before the step

of repainting.
4. Remove the dust on the wall and followed by repainting work.
