Covers how textbooks are written and approved. Unbelievable and quite disconcerting. I should
write a textbook based on Wikipedia! To note - Slate ranks as one of the most liberal media sites
and the author is very opinionated in this article.

Interview of Professor Kyle Ward who wrote a Remaking History about the history textbooks
reflecting the social, political, and economic realities of the time periods in which they were
written. Saw the biggest shift in telling occur in the 1960s and Ward suspects the Vietnam War
protests and Watergate played a role. Also addresses the how we can manipulate our telling of
history to serve our interests, Bush using WWII as justification for the war on terror while those
opposed the invasion said they didnt want another Vietnam.

Very interesting lecture on reasons for teaching patriotism as well as the risks. Also covers a brief
history of court cases related to patriotism in the classroom, and analyzes Martin Luther King Jr
and Abraham Lincoln for their roles in teaching patriotism.

Loewen surveyed 12 high school textbooks to evaluate accuracy and inclusiveness. He found a
large degree of fabrication and eurocentric storytelling.
