Working with a visually impaired student using assistive technology/

5 hours

1. Briefly describe the field

experience. What did you learn about
technology facilitation and leadership
from completing this field experience?

PSC 2.5/ISTE 2e

I worked with a young girl who is

visually impaired and used
magnified glasses for reading. I
learned that assistive technology
does not have to be some unknown
device but could be something all
students can use on a day to day
basis.

2. How did this learning relate to the
knowledge (what must you know),
skills (what must you be able to do)
and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs,
enthusiasm) required of a technology
facilitator or technology leader?
(Refer to the standards you selected in
Part I. Use the language of the PSC
standards in your answer and reflect
on all 3knowledge, skills, and
dispositions.)
I must know how to use AT to teach and

extend learning to students who are

identified as needing AT for learning. I
was able to use the iPad to encourage the
student to read during the summer.
Allowing the student to read the book
with the read-aloud feature made both of
us feel encouraged that she could have
fun with reading and not be frustrated
because of her disability.

3. Describe how this field experience

impacted school improvement, faculty
development or student learning at
your school. How can the impact be
assessed?
This field experience will affect her
future learning because I taught the
mother how to access other material that
could be used throughout the year.
