Mrs. Andersons favorite thing about science is chemistry. Mrs. Anderson

Mrs. Anderson has two kids. They are both boys, and
both attend school at Douglas Intermediate School. Although they are not
twins, Dylan is the older one and he is 11 years old. Joshua, the younger
one, is 10 years old. Mrs. Anderson is married to James Anderson. Mr.
Anderson serves as a Chaplain at Beacon Hospice.

teacher for Mrs. Latimer in 2012-2013. Before she came
to teach at SSMS she taught at Mt. Pleasant High School.
She also hasnt just taught science, she has also taught
chemistry. Mrs. Anderson attended school at Texas A&M
Commerce.

her husband, Jason, have been married for 14 years. He is a computer

programmer for Grocery Supply here in Sulphur Springs.
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn have two children. Cable, the Glenns
eleven-year-old son, is a student at Douglas Intermediate.
Colbie is nine years old, and she is a student at Sulphur
Springs Elementary School. Mrs. Glenns hobby is to
spend time with her kids.

When Mrs. Glenn was in 10th grade they moved to Sulphur Springs because her dad got a job at the high school as a coach. She went to college
at Stephen F. Austin where she got a degree in BSIS. Since graduating, she
has taught in SSISD for 14 years.

Mrs. Posey has come to Middle School from Atlanta, Texas, having
spent the past 15 years teaching elementary school students in Atlanta
and Brownsboro. Mrs. Posey received a Bachelor of Science degree from
Stephen F. Austin University, and later earned her Masters in Education
from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
Mrs. Posey has been married for 16 years to Rusty Posey,
the pastor of First Assembly of God Church here in Sulphur Springs. Mr. & Mrs. Posey have two children.
Mady, the oldest daughter attends Sulphur Springs Middle School while Mackenzie (her little sister) is a student
at Bowie Elementary School (across from Braums).

Death Kills Love, Rome Fights Back

The following is the true story of how Valentines Day came to be considered Americas Day of Love.
While visiting his girlfriend of 14 years in Rome, Octavius (a high ranking member of the Roman Army) decided to ask her to marry him. The Emperor
Claudius II heard about what Octavius planned to do and therefore, passed a law forbidding young men to marry.
Claudius II believed young men would be more interested in their wives instead of fighting in war. Octavius was not the only
Roman to disagree with the new law. A saint, Valentine, contested the legislation so much, that he began to perform marriages
for young couples in secret. When Octavius found out Saint Valentine was performing these unions, he pleaded with Saint Valentine to marry him to his love. Saint Valentine agreed.
The day they planned to be married, Octavius discovered that Claudius II sent his soldiers to capture and execute Saint Valentine. They tried to escape but to no avail. Claudius II and their men overpowered Octavius and his girlfriend and threw them in
jail.

Luckily for Octavius, another Saint Valentine was helping Christians get out of jail. This Saint Valentine freed Octavius and his girlfriend. Sadly, 2 days later, the peoples saint was got caught and beheaded.
While Valentine was in jail, before he lost his life saving his people, he wrote a letter to his girlfriend declaring his love for her in which she responded
and began her letter To my Valentine. That is why people today send love letters, candy, and more to their loved ones each February 14th, Valentines
Day, the day of romance.

an American Regional Mexican singer who was signed by Del Records, Empire Productions, at the age of sixteen, and has already produced two albums.
Coronels first album was Con la Frente en Alto which translates as Keep Your
Head Up. It was released September 17, 2013, and he quickly found his name appearing on the Billboard charts. This was followed by Quiero Ser Tu Dueno (an album carrying the same title as one of his popular love songs), which was released on
September 30, 2014.
Luis Coronel hadnt even finished high school before he was trending social media
after a video he had posted of him singing at one of his boxing matches. Coronel
gave up a potential future in boxing to focus on a music career. He quickly rose to
fame by uploading many of his music videos on YouTube and Facebook, and his
growing list of followers increased every day, attracting the attention of Del Records
(the company that signed him).
Luis is the youngest of three sons. Luis dad died when he was
young, but not before having his son promise that he would
take care of the family. He didnt care that he was the youngest, he was determined to keep his promise, and he is living
up to his words.

Student Council (STUCO) is a BIG deal here at SSMS. I decided to visit with Ms. Frazier to get the scoop as to why this student group is so popular.
Ms. Frazier has a co-sponsor, Ms. Nix, who helps keep things running. With 97 students in STUCO, these two ladies must stay one
step ahead. STUCOs many activities include visiting nursing homes, participating in canned food drives, preparing for the end-of
-year celebration, King and Queen Nominations, Special Olympics, and Teacher Appreciation Week.
In order to join STUCO you have to fill out an application and then students vote. You also need teacher approval.
Ms. Frazier states, Each grade level has leaders at SSMS. Each member has a voice for their fellow classmates. STUCO members
also work together for the community.

Ms. Frazier

Students learn to work as a team and collaborate ideas. They work together to get things done and to lead our school. All STUCO members are
leaders because they were chosen from their teachers and peers to lead the campus.
These are some tips if you wish of join. Be an all around good student. Treat your teacher and fellow classmates with respect. Be a leader; stand
out to teachers and students. Thank you SSMS STUCO!

Meet Mrs. Morales! She attended school in Sulphur Springs,
Texas and currently lives in Cumby, Texas. After high school,
she attended the University of Phoenix earning an Associates
degree in Information Technology/Networking. She currently
attends Texas A&M Commerce where she is getting her Bachelors in General Studies and will eventually earn an alternative
teaching certification.
She is married to Matt Morales, and they have two kids. Their
oldest child is Macie, and her younger sister is Jacie. They are
eight years old and seven years old respectively. They both go
to the Cumby School.
Mrs. Morales enjoys cooking and has been teaching for five
years. She is currently serving as an aide, and is very excited to
be a part of Wildcat Country. SSMS is also excited; were excited to have Mrs. Morales here.

Our Veterans!

On November 11, 2014 we celebrated Veterans Day here at SSMS. Officer Sanders, Mr. Couch, and Mr. McCray are three of the veterans who work here
at SSMS. Take a second look at the men you thought you knew:
Mr. Couch was a captain in the U.S. Army. He was in the military for 16 years before leaving from Ft. Huachuca, Arizona, and eventually becoming a teacher. When he was in the army, among other places, he was stationed in Fort Knox (Kentucky), Fort Huachuca (Arizona), Fort Riley (Kansas), and Fort Hood
(Texas). He ran a battalion aid station for an armor (tank) unit, where he made sure the soldiers received immediate medical support. He also ran interrogation teams, through which valuable information was received from enemy prisoners of war. Mr. Couch says that he liked being in the military because
he liked having the sense that if he was in a bad situation he could survive. His father and his two older brothers played an important part in his decision
to join the military since they also served (although in the Air Force), and Mr. Couch wanted to follow in their footsteps. He was 20 when he joined the
military and served in both active and reserve duty from 1984 - 2000.
Mr. McCray was also in the U.S. Army, serving as a captain in the infantry. He was 22 when he joined and served from 1986 - 1992. While in the army, Mr.
McCray graduated from many schools including air assault, airborne, and ranger school. Thats right, Mr. McCray was one of the legendary Airborne
Rangers! He served as a weapons platoon / mortar platoon leader, a riffle platoon leader, HHC executive officer, and an S3 (operations) staff officer. Like
Mr. Couch, McCray served during Desert Storm, and also joined the military because he thought he would enjoy it, and he was following in the footsteps
of other men in his family; his grandpa, father and older brother also served.
Officer Sanders was a petty officer in the U.S. Navy. He was 20 years old when he joined and served from 1976 - 1980. Officer Sanders stated that he liked
being in the military very much, because he got to see all the places that he learned about in school. While he was in the navy he was an operator specialist, air intercept controller, and a SAC (anti-submarine air controller). Like our other two veterans, Officer Sanders had family members who had served in
the armed forces. Sanders father and 2 uncles served in WWII, and in the Korean Conflict.
Officer Sanders was stationed at his home port which was San Diego, CA, and served on board the USS Constellation CV64, which placed him off the coast
of Iran during the famous rescue attempt to save Americans held in our embassy there.
We are very grateful that we have so many veterans that have served so that we could have our freedom. So, if you see a veteran, or you know one,
thank them for everything they did to help us be free.

Middle School Wildcat Band

The Sulphur Springs Middle School performed at the 17 th annual band concert at the Hopkins County Civic Center on December 11, 2014. Students ranging in skill from 6th grade Beginning Band members to high school seniors dazzled a full house, and according to Peyton Arden, 8 th grade trumpet player,
It was such a good performance that every section was full.
There are actually four bands here at Middle School. These include the following: 6 th grade Beginning
Band, as well as three bands composed of both 7th and 8th grade musicians. These three bands are identified by the skill level of the musicians. Honors Band, which includes the most skillful players, is able to
play more difficult selections than the others. These students are the ones who can reach those hard to
hit high or low notes. Many of these students have worked their way up from Symphonic Band (with intermediate-level musicians), and Concert Band, which is for students who have recently graduated from
the Beginning Band.
Each of these Middle School bands did an amazing job representing our campus at the district-wide annual concert in December, but they also do an
amazing job representing our city at TMEA region band, UIL solo, ensemble, and sight-reading contests, which take place in the spring. Throughout the
year, these cats are also a huge help during pep rallies, and the Wildcat Rampage says, You Rock!
