1. Introduction
a. The rules and regulations contained in this document are designed to act at
general guidelines and procedures for operating an Indiana Rallycross event.
Due to nature of the Indiana Rallycross program, new races or race types may
dictate changes from these rules. Changes can be made at any time per the
event officials discretion. Event officials will make everyone aware of any
changes or supplemental rules put in place during the drivers meeting prior to
the start of an event.
b. Any questions or comments should be addressed to
IndianaRallycross@gmail.com.
c. These rules closely follow the SCCA rules however it should be noted that
there are some distinct changes that the competitors should be aware of. All
participants are encouraged to read this entire document.
g. All participants must agree that they are familiar with these rules and agree
to abide by them.
2. Definition
a. A Rallycross is any event in which one vehicle at a time is timed over a
clearly defined course, with elapsed time and appropriate penalties for course
deviations being the determining factor for awards. This shall not preclude
running more than one vehicle at a time, provided they are separated on
course by adequate time and distance to eliminate any possibility of a passing
situation. Events will be held on generally unpaved, flat surface, wherein the
course consists of short straight sections and connecting turns or corners.
These events emphasize handing and agility rather than speed or power.

3. Revision of Rules
a. Indiana Rallycross may revise these rules at any time.
4. Drivers
a. A Rallycross event is open to novices in any vehicle that can pass tech
inspection.
b. Drivers must possess a currently valid automobile drivers license. Minor
drivers must be able to show that they have permission to operate the vehicle
in the event.
c. A driver may enter an event only once
d. A given car may be entered by no more than two drivers in the same class
e. If, during an event, a vehicle experiences mechanical problems resulting in
its permanent withdrawal from the days competition the driver may finish
his/her runs in another car legal in that class.
f. Drivers must attend a mandatory drivers meeting prior to the start of the
event.
5. Passengers
a. One (1) passenger is allowed to ride in an approved seat located in forward
most occupant area of a vehicle that has passed tech inspection.
b. The passenger must be no younger than sixteen (16) years of age and meet
all liability waiver requirements.
c. The passenger must be wearing a helmet that fits correctly and meets safety
requirements.
d. Passengers must attend the mandatory drivers meeting prior to the start of
the event.
6. Spectators
a. Indiana Rallycross events are non-spectator events. Access to race locations
will be limited; everyone entering the property must sign a waiver and release
form and will be issued a credential (wristband) to indicate they have signed
those forms.
b. Attendance should be restricted to race officials, volunteers, race
competitors and crew. Additional people may be allowed on site for the sake of
education about the sport and recruitment of possible future participants.
7. Assumption of Risk
a. Rallycross is a potentially dangerous activity that can result in serious injury
or death. Participation in all aspects of the activity is voluntary. The ultimate
responsibility for any participant and vehicle safety lies with the participant,
vehicle owner, driver, and crew members.

b. The participant agrees that by entering an event, the participant has had the
opportunity to inspect the event site and acknowledges that the event site is
safe and suitable for competition. The participant also acknowledges that by
participating in the event, they participant may suffer bodily injury or death, or
loss or damage to property. The participant further acknowledges that the
participant has voluntarily assumed the risk of bodily injury or death or loss or
damage to property and waives any claims for bodily injury or death, or loss or
damage to property against Indiana Rallycross, its directors, officers, site
owners/operators, and other participants; discharges such persons and entities
from responsibility for such losses; and covenants not to sue such persons and
entities for bodily injury or death or loss or damage to property.
8. Waivers
a. The individual (Parent/guardian, as appropriate) must complete and sign the
required participant waiver prior to entering the event site. Credentials (wrist
band) will be given to indicate the completion of that waiver. These credentials
must be displayed at all times during the event.
9. Vehicles
a. Indiana Rallycross events are open to any fixed-roof, four wheeled,
production vehicle, including convertibles with a factory hardtop attached that
can pass safety inspection. Other vehicles may be permitted on a case by case
basis if the participant can demonstrate the safety of that vehicle. If a safety
official determines at their own discretion that a vehicle cannot safely navigate
the course, it may be excluded.
10. Vehicle Classification
a. Indiana Rallycross will offer four vehicle classifications to competitors; D
class, C class, B class, and A class. With each class progressing in allowed
modifications, speed, and capability. Classification requirements may be
adjusted as deemed necessary to promote fair and fun competition between
drivers. Indiana Rallycross will use the following car classification guidelines:

q. All vehicles must have adequate operable forward lighting to participate in
night or low light events.
12. Course safety
a. Course designers will take into account that the event is open to both
experienced and novice drivers alike, and will design the course with safety of
all drivers in mind. Events speeds will be limited to what is reasonable and
prudent for the conditions encountered. Drivers are expected to drive within
their limits and follow the guidance of the track officials. Drivers will be
expelled from the course if safety officials determine that they are acting in a
manner unsafe to themselves or others. For new drivers who are unsure of the
limits of their car or driving skill, Indiana Rallycross drivers will be on hand to
offer assistance and guidance. All drivers and officials are expected to exercise
good judgment and common sense.

b. Each driver will be provided an opportunity to walk or drive through the

course or to have a parade lap prior to the first official run

c. The event officials have the responsibility for monitoring the operations and
safety of the event. This includes monitoring the course for damage and drivers
for dangerous or aggressive driving styles.
d. Basic event observation shall include the following at a minimum:
i. Competitor driving style
ii. Course following problems
iii. Dust
iv. Worker locations
v. Jumps developing
vi. Ruts developing
vii. General course deterioration
viii. Event layout, parking, staging, and finish areas
ix. Safe locations for scoring and timing personnel
x. Spectator control
xi. Unauthorized persons on course
e. All event participants are expected to observe for safety risks and notify an
event official if they see something of concern.
f. Event officials will oversee any modifications that need to be made to the
course. No changes to the course can be made without authorization of the
event officials.
g. Competitors should only enter the course under the following conditions:
h. Their duty as course worker requires is
i. During a course walk
ii. As a driver/passenger during a parade lap
iii. As a competitor during a timed run
13. Scoring
a. Scoring will be cumulative.
b. Timing officials may agree to uniformly drop a set number of runs from each
competitors official times. This may either be the slowest runs of that
competitor, or determined sequentially.
c. The timing and scoring method will be agreed upon prior to the start of each
event and clearly explained to event competitors. This will include the timing
and scoring method to be used on the course and course penalties. It may also
include information on awards or championships standings and points.
d. Timing officials are responsible for accurately taking, reading, and recording
times at the start and finish of each competitors run.
e. Times will be conspicuously posted in a reasonable time frame
f. A driver may be given a re-run for a lap where the competitor was unable to
complete their fastest lap due to a situation that was out of their control. The
following scenarios would permit a re-run.
i. Vehicles red flagged on course due to a course safety concern
ii. Unauthorized persons or vehicles on course
iii. The competitor catches up to a much slower competitor in front
iv. The competitor catches up to a stopped or stalled vehicle on course
g. Re-runs will not be given for any competitor who cannot complete a lap due
an issue they caused or mechanical problem with their vehicle.

14. Penalties
a. Indiana Rallycross courses will be designed in a way to minimize the amount
of penalties given. Course markers or pylons will be minimized on course and
used just to designate course direction wherever possible.
b. As long as drivers make a good faith effort to navigate the course as laid out
by race officials, no penalties will be charged where possible. This gives drivers
some flexibility in picking the best driving line.
c. If a driver repeatedly hits markers on the course, misses gates, or is
observed to be intentionally clipping corners then penalties will be charged.
d. Occasionally specific gates or cones will be places on course for speed
control and safety reasons. These markers will be identified by course officials
and penalties will be charged disrupting or bypassing the designated markers.
e. No penalty will be charged for a driver that hits a course marker or pylon
that was knocked into the course by a previous competitor.
f. No penalty will be charged for any competitor who stops on course or delays
the event due to a safety concern.
g. The following normal penalties may be given:
i. A 2 second penalty may be given if a course marker or pylon is upset
or totally displaced
ii. A 10 second penalty will be given for a missed gate. A gate is defined
as a pair of cones opposite each other, or a single cone with a directional
pointer cone to indicate a specific way around that cone.
iii. Additional penalties may be charged for unnecessarily delaying the
event.
h. In addition to the normal penalties, the event safety officials can, at
their discretion, apply any of the following warranted by the offense:
i. Fine ($1 to $200)
ii. Probation or suspension of competition privileges
iii. Time or position
iv. Disqualification from competition
v. Loss of accrued points
vi. Expulsion from Indiana Rallycross events.
i. Contestants are reminded that conduct is evaluated and scrutinized
both on the course and within the confines of the event site.
Unsportsmanlike conduct will be treated as a serious matter.
Endangering other competitors, workers, or spectators will be evaluated
on a case by case basis by the event officials.
15. Weather Policy
a. Indiana Rallycross events will take all steps necessary to mitigate the risk
and avoid endangering competitors, works, and spectators from severe
weather (lighting, hail, high winds, heavy rain, or tornados). Local weather will
be monitors as much as possible during any events. Indiana Rallycross will use
the 30-30 rule to determine when to halt competition and when to restart in the
interest of safety. The 30-30 rule follows these guidelines:
i. When lightning or severe weather approaches and is within 6 miles (30
seconds between the lightning strike and audible thunder), the event will
be suspended.

ii. After the threat has passed, wait 30 minutes after the last observation
of any threat within 6 miles of the race site before resuming competition.
iii. Unless shelter is available, competitors, workers, and spectators will
be instructed to get inside their vehicles and roll up the windows. Under
no circumstances should anyone be standing outside in the course
during a thunderstorm or other severe weather.
b. If the event cannot be resumed safely, it will be cancelled, delayed, or
postponed.
16. Feedback
a. Any comments, questions, or other feedback should be directed to Indiana
Rallycross officials via email at IndianaRallycross@gmail.com.
