Gods Covenant Law: The Missing Element in Christian and Mormon Theology

This article is about expanding and understanding Gods covenant theology by building a framework for study. By and
large Christian and Mormon theology is mostly a combination of rites and good deeds, but lack the specific covenant
laws which make a relationship with God efficacious.
During the Feast of Shavuot/Pentecost, we commemorate enter Gods full covenant His everlasting covenant of life.
Gods full covenant can be further delineated into sub-covenants that help us to understand what is required to have a
full relationship with Him and His Son. Moreover, by expanding our understanding of the various aspects of covenant
making, we can make His covenants with us real and effective in our lives.
The Everlasting Covenant
Gods Everlasting Covenant of Life is the summation of all of His sub-covenants which defines our relationship with Him
and which lifts us to enjoy the type of life He lives. These sub-covenants include:

Gods Everlasting
Covenant of Life
(The Fullness of the Gospel)

The New Covenant (which is applying the Sinai law with a pure
heart and excludes the law of Moses the sacrificial system)
The Levitical Covenant
The Davidic Covenant
The Abrahamic Covenant
The Enochic Covenant
The Messianic Covenant

Aspects of Covenant Making

Within Gods covenant theology exists various aspects or mechanics of Gods covenant making. These include:
The Covenant Title
The Covenant Rite
The Covenant Sign
The Covenant Law and Blessing

Covenant Titles are the names given to certain sub-covenants within Gods covenant of life. These Titles are typically
assigned to certain individuals because they exemplified the aspects of those sub-covenants. For instance, the
Abrahamic covenant was named after Abraham because he covenanted and exemplified the raising of his posterity
under the laws of Gods.
Covenant Rites are the ceremonies that witness one has entered into a covenant. For instance, baptism witnesses that
one has turned from his old ways to living a new way under God. For those who once lived Gods law and apostatized,
being baptized means returning to God.
Covenant Signs are continuing witnesses that we are living under and are subject to a particular covenant. For instance,
observing Gods Sabbaths is the ongoing sign for His New Covenant, which is also the sign for the old Sinai covenant/law.

Covenant Law are the specific laws God asks us to live by to make the covenant efficacious and to receive the covenant
blessing. For instance, we know that by living the righteous laws revealed by God to Moses, which form the basis of the
New Covenant, we begin to define our relationship with God and begin to understand him. Some of these laws include:
commemorating the Feasts at Lev 23, living Kosher diets, the proper law of tithing based on surplus, laws of wealth
building (pooling surpluses), keeping the Sabbath, posting mezuzah on door posts these are some of the righteous
Sinai laws. The Covenant Blessings include: the spiritual blessing of receiving Gods Spirit (a spiritual salvation) and also
the temporal blessings of posterity, inheritance, abundance, and protection (a temporal salvation).
