Class Expectations

Be on time.
Enter the classroom quietly.
Sit in your assigned seat.

Bring all materials to class (Social studies notebook, pen, pencil, highlighter, book).
Come in with all work due for the day and place in the proper turn in box.
Be ready to listen, learn, and participate.

Maximize your learning by staying on task.


Follow directions carefully.
Remain seated unless given permission to get up.
No talking during quiet activities

Treat your classmates, your teacher, your classroom and yourself with respect.
No teasing or insults of any kind.
There is ZERO TOLERANCE for swearing or bullying.
Keep your hands, feet, and belongings to yourself (no throwing of any kind will be
tolerated)

Wait politely and calmly for your turn to speak or participate.


No complaining or whining.
Listen carefully and politely when someone else is speaking.

Speak with positive language about yourself and to others.


Believe in yourself and your classmates.

Student Behavior and Attendance

Students that come to class tardy will be required to get a late pass from the office per
school requirements.
Students that are tardy more than 3 times will have participation points deducted for each
subsequent tardy.
Students with an unexcused absence will be expected to collect their missed work from
the file folders at the front of the room and turn it in the next day.
Students with an excused absence will be allowed an appropriate amount of time to
complete their work based on the length of their absence.

1.) At the beginning of each class, students are expected to enter the classroom quietly and
respectfully. They should get out their class materials and leave everything else off their
desk.
2.) Turn in your work to your class's box at the beginning of class. Work that is turned in after
the first 5 minutes of class will be marked late and be deducted points. Work that is
turned in a day or more late will have a significant deduction.
3.) After turning in your homework, sit quietly in your assigned seat and write down the
agenda for the day.
4.) During class lessons and activities, follow the 6 P's of the classroom.
5.) Objectives and daily schedules will be posted each class. Students are expected to know
these objectives and follow them closely.
6.) Materials will be distributed by the head of each row and the same process will be used to
collect materials. This person is expected to place assignments in the appropriate
assignment inbox.
7.) Students are expected to raise their hands if they have questions or need to get out of
their seats, which includes throwing away trash or sharpening a pencil.
8.) Restroom passes will only be given for emergencies and the student will have to turn in
one of their emergency restroom passes in order to be excused.
9.) Do not pack up until Mrs. Clark gives you permission to do so.
10.) Before leaving you must check the area around you for trash and leave the classroom the
way that you found it.
11.) On days the students will be going to the library or an assembly, students will be
expected to act in accordance to the 6 Ps of the classroom, including staying quiet in
hallways and being respectful of other classes.
12.) In case of an emergency, students will follow my instructions explicitly and will be
expected to know the location of our classs emergency plan.

Students that follow all behavior rules will be allowed one raffle ticket per week. At the end of each
month, a raffle will be held for various prizes (pens, pencils, highlighters, extension passes, etc.)

No eating or drinking of any kind, water is the only exception.


No gum chewing of any kind.
Cell phones must be turned off and put away at all times. They will be confiscated if heard or
seen.
Tablets may only be used with permission from Mrs. Clark, and only for reading purposes.
Students are not allowed to listen to music at any time. During tests and quiet individual
activities, students will be allowed to use ear plugs, if needed.
There will be consequences for the following behaviors:
Throwing trash (on the floor or trying to "make-it" into the trash can).
Gum chewing (including throwing gum anywhere other than the trash).
Being on a cell phone or leaving your cell phone turned on during class.
Using a tablet without permission from Mrs. Clark.
Wearing earbuds or headphones during class.
Sitting in a seat other than the one assigned to you.
Getting out of your seat without permission to do any of the following: sharpen your pencil,
throw away trash, etc.
Drawing or writing on the desks (this will warrant a classroom cleaning detention).
Excessive or disruptive talking during class, especially during quiet activities.
Being disrespectful to the teacher or to your classmates (teasing, bullying, calling others
names, or swearing)
Physical contact with another student (inappropriate hugging or play fighting)
Any act of violence (verbal or physical) will result in IMMEDIATE removal from class and a
referral to the office.

1.) First Offense - the student will be given a warning and will forfeit any privileges for that
day.*
2.) Second Offense - the student will be given a detention and asked to write an essay regarding
their behavior.*
3.) Third Offense - the student will be given a referral to the office (they must also write an
essay regarding their behavior).
*If a student has been violent or disrespectful in any way (including swearing at others, fighting,
inappropriate contact with another student, or bullying others) they will be sent to the office
immediately, no warnings or any questions asked. This sort of behavior is completely unacceptable
and will not be tolerated under any circumstance.

Students are expected to present their own work and only their own work. There will be
zero tolerance for plagiarism, copying, fabrication, or cheating. If a student is caught be
academically dishonest, they will receive a zero on the assignment and be reported to the
office.

Grading Policies

For the purposes of this class, the following percentages align with the following grades:
o A = 90%-100%
o B = 80%-89%
o C = 70%-79%
o D = 60%-69%
o F = 0%-59%
There will be no curving of grades in this class and students are expected to receive a minimum
of a 70% to be considered proficient in the subject.
Students will be presented with rubrics, scoring guides, and expectations for each assignment
they complete.
Students will be expected to meet all CA History-Social Science Standards, CA Common Core
State Standards, and English Language Development Standards presented in the class.
Major assignments for this class will include, small group projects, unit exams, one short focused
research project, and one long detailed research report.
Unexcused late work will be deducted a minimum of 50% on the first late day it is turned in. If a
students work is two days late it will be deducted 75%. Late work is not accepted after the third
day.
There may be some opportunities for extra credit in this course, but they will require significant
effort on the part of the students. Extra credit in this class will be assigned on a week-by-week
basis and will be due well before the end of the semester to prevent students from slacking on
regular classwork. Examples of extra credit might include: a visit to a museum or exhibit with a
summative essay; watching and analyzing a documentary; or completing a community-service
based research project.
Students are required to take standardized exams every year. This year exams will be held in
April.
Homework, journals, quick-writes, exit cards, and daily warm-ups will be graded for completion
and will not require rubrics or scoring guides. These are meant to foster learning and are not a
means of summative assessment.
