FOREWORD @
This British Gas engineering standard having been approved by the Production and Supply Policy
Committee as document PSPC 81/609 is published under the authority of the Corporation for
use throughout the British Gas Corporation.
This British Gas engineering standard complements BGC/PS/V6 : Part 2* by covering small valves
whose size range, of material is outside the scope of those British Standards specified in
BGC/PS/V6 : Part 2.

BRITISH GAS ENGINEERING STANDARD BGC/PS/V8
SPECIFICATION FOR VALVES (25 mm NOMINAL SIZE AND BELOW )
FOR INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL PURPOSES
1, SCOPE
1,1. This British Gas engineering standard specities requirements for valves of ball, plug and
needle types of nominal sizes 25 mm and below with screwed or compression type ends for
use with the fluid specified on the data sheet (see Appendix A, lines 19 to 23 inclusive) except
that valves for distribution purposes at pressures below 7 bar are excluded,
Valves to this specification for use with natural gas shall be suitable for operation at pressures
up to 100 bar, or higher pressures when specified on the data sheet (see Appendix A, line 4).
‘Temperatures shall be normally within the range —20°C to 100°C unless otherwise specified on
the data sheet (see Appendix A, line 5).
1.2. The requirements of this engineering standard apply to valves of types not covered by
recognised National or International standards. Reference should be made to BGC/PS/VG : Part 2
for requirements for small valves to British Standards which can also be used for applications
covered by this engineering standard,
1.3 Automatic control and slamshut valves, pressure regulators and pressure relief valves or
valves for cryogenic and low temperature applications are excluded from the scope of this
specification.
