SAFE WORK PROCEDURES

GUILLOTINE (PAPER)
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
1.
Only those persons who have been trained in the correct and safe use of and who are authorised to do so are to operate guillotines.
2.
Guillotines are to be used to cut soft materials only (paper, card, cardboard, soft plastics, etc) these machines are not to be used to cut metals.
3.
Operation and maintenance of guillotines is to be carried out in strict accordance with the manufacturers operation and maintenance manuals.

Key processes to be followed

Ensure that all guards and covers are fitted to machine before operating.
Check operation of safeguards (light curtains, etc) before operating machine.
Avoid touching cutting edge of knife use brush or similar to clean.
Operate air table operating button to clear air jets of dust and debris.
Wipe table clean with brush or duster, etc.
Suitable gloves must be worn if using solvents to clean machine or parts.
Do not reach under clamp and knife when machine is running.
Light barrier will prevent cutting stroke operation only - clamp may still
operated by use of foot pedal even when light barrier is operating.
Use mechanical aids or obtain assistance to place heavy stock on table.
Maintenance of machine is to be carried out by trained personnel only.
Knife change is to be carried out using supplied tools and aids in strict
accordance with instructions given in manufacturers operating manual.
Avoid contact with sharp edge of blades while changing and carrying.

Ensure machine is switched off for
cleaning and maintenance.
Wear eye protection.
Do not use compressed air to clean
Wear suitable hand protection.
Use block or tool to position stock
for cutting - KEEP HANDS AND
FINGERS CLEAR.
Observe correct lifting practices.
Authorised personnel only.
Hand protection should be worn.
Wear Type 1 safety footwear.
Place knife in case to transport.
