SAFE WORK PROCEDURES

METAL BANDSAW AND POWER HACKSAW


SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
1.
Never exceed the rated bar capacity of the machine.
2.
Always select the correct blade for the type and size of stock to be cut.
3.
Always follow manufacturers instructions regarding the use of the machine at all times.

Key processes to be followed


Use stands to support long lengths of stock.
Obtain assistance or use mechanical aids to load large sections of stock into
machine.
Ensure that jaws of vice are clean and undamaged.
Make sure that stock is held securely in vice before commencing to cut.
Keep area around machine clear of scrap material and coolant spills.
Provide support for material being cut off.
Risk of eye injury from chips, broken blades, etc.
Cut ends of stock will have sharp burrs and edges.
Adjust blade guides to as close to the work as possible to provide maximum
support for the blade when cutting.
Larger machines will have coolant pump fitted for cutting of large sections.
Ensure that coolant tank has sufficient coolant for continuous flow.
Unplug machine before carrying out maintenance.
Wear gloves when handling rough or sharp objects.
Clean guides and wheels before placing new blade onto machine.
Ensure blade is tensioned correctly before returning machine to service.
