Unit Plan

This unit plan is designed for an 8th grade general science class
during the chemistry section. This is a sample from the beginning of
the semester that will give students an introduction to chemistry, the
periodic table, atomic and molecular structure, and bonding. This
will lead into a unit on physical and chemical change and reactions.
Standard 7 (a-f) of the InTASC Standards requires teachers to
use standards, curriculum, and professional collaboration to design
learning experiences that are appropriate and effective for a
particular grade and cognitive level. This unit plan was designed
using these principles. I took the time to evaluate the ability of my
students, research standards and curriculum, and collaborate with
my colleges to design a unit that would be effective in teaching this
content. In my unit plan I sought to utilize appropriate strategies
and resources for my individual students. This is a skill promoted
by InTASC Standard 8 (a). InTASC Standard 8 (j) is evident in my unit
plan, which promotes multiple forms of communication to convey
science content.
