Gas processing and liquefaction (CH4533)

Individual Assignment (10%)

Part A (70%)
Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) and Enhanced Gas Recovery (EGR) are a set of techniques used
to improve the recovery of hydrocarbons from oil and gas fields. Primary and secondary
recovery methods are only 40% efficient, hence requiring tertiary recovery methods known as
EOR and EGR. The three main techniques for enhanced recovery are as follows:
1. Thermal recovery
2. Gas injection
3. Chemical injection
Critically review these three main techniques of enhanced recovery.
In your four-page report, you are required address the following aspects:

Comprehensive process description of each technique

Advantages and disadvantages of each recovery method in terms of process and
efficiency (this comparison can be made in a table format)
Compare the sustainability of each method (take into account the safety, economics and
environment considerations).

Part B (30%)
The first Gas-to-Liquid (GTL) plant to be operated worldwide was set up in Bintulu, Sarawak
with production capacity of 14,700 barrels per day. Due to the many benefits of the GTL
products, four other GTL plants have also started operation globally. Carry out a two page
literature study on GTL technology. In your report, you are required to address the following
aspects:
Process description of GTL (chemical reaction, processing and the main unit operations)
Final products and targeted market
