Formative Evaluation
Introduction
The evaluation aspect of a learning design project is an important step to help the learner achieve
the desired cognitive knowledge sought. As I followed the different steps that the Addie model
requires, in IU1, I have presented our targeted audience, the performance gap and instructional
goals. In the IU2 plan I have provided given the design strategies to the design. In the IU3 I have
supplied the assessments and resources that would be used and on the previous plane which was
IU4 I have included the implementation tools and strategies that will be used to close the
knowledge gap a learner has when it comes to buying a laptop. The attendees to this training
will be receiving the needed knowledge in making a wise decision for their next laptop purchase.
The intent of this training is to educate the learners of what makes one laptop different from
another and why they need to look at their needs before they purchase a laptop in an impulse. For
Instructional Unit # 5, a formative evaluation will be conducted. The evaluation will be that of a
subject matter expert, a one-toone evaluation conducted after the subject matter expert Review
changes are incorporated, and finally a small group evaluation of the training program once
changes have been identified from the onetoone evaluation.

Specific Goal
The attendee of this training will complete this goal by understanding what makes a particular
laptop a better purchase then a competitor, how to compare two similar devices and chose the
best for their needs. Attendees will be Knowledgeable of how to (1) Identify differences between
mobile devices, (2) Interactive learning will be given, and general information of the different
ports (external connections) on laptop will be learned, the learner will also be given basic
instruction of how these ports can enhance the usage of these devices. The attendee will be
knowledgeable on (3) Identify hardware components (CPU, Hard drives, RAM, etc), (4)
Interactive programming will aid the attendees with identify what hardware components do in a
computer. (5) Demonstration of knowledge by attendees in the technical language will be used to
identify the difference components inside a laptop, which will aid them in identifying the cost
variations between the different models of laptops. (6) Knowledge will come from the attendee
in showing that they can research a manufactures rating and find the best customer service after
the sale. (7) Identify which mobile device will fit different life styles by having knowledge that
will aid them in making an educated purchase of a laptop, identify the specifications that could
be beneficial to their needs before buying a laptop, and identify the cost relationship to the
internal components for each laptop they might be shopping for.

Subject Matter Expert Review

Introduction
The Subject Matter Expert (SME) for this evaluation was conducted by Mr. Meliton
Hinojosa III. Mr. Hinojosa has over 20 years of experience in the field of Electronic and
Computer Maintenance. He is currently the program chair of the Electronic and Computer
Maintenance department at South Texas College. Mr. Hinojosa has over 16 years of teaching
experience in Information Technology and Computer Maintenance. Prior to his teaching
experience Mr. Hinojosa worked for the United State Air Forces as an Intrusion Detection
Systems Maintenance. His certification include but not limited to an A+ certification, N+
certification, Certified Ethical Hacker, and Computer Forensic Investigator to name a few. Mr.
Hinojosa has multiple degrees, which include an Associate from community college of the Air
Force in Electronic Systems in 1997 to his most recent doctor's of education from Texas A&M
2011.
The first draft material and instruction was delivered to the SME in person for his
independent review. His comments and suggestions were sent back via email.

Synopsis
The prognostics given by Mr. Hinojosa is that of a job well done. The audience is identified and
the material that will be thought seems to be in order with the level skill of my audience. The
material is relevant and the examples and tools used seem to be enriching and plentiful. The
practical substance and thorough identification of components and blocks of information goes
well with this type of cognitive learning.

Based on the feedback provided I will implement RSQC2 which allows the learner two
minutes to recall and list in rank order the most important ideas from a previous
discussion; in two more minutes, they summarize those points in a single sentence, then
write one major question they want answered, then identify a thread or theme to connect
this material to the course's major goal.
Information received will need to be visited regularly due to the fast pace industry that
technology has to offer.
One-to-One Evaluation
Introduction
The one-to-one evaluation was conducted by Mr. Oscar Flores. Mr. Flores was chosen
due to his knowledge in the Electronic and Computer Maintenance while also coming from
industry as a owner of Electronics and Printer services Co. Mr. Flores knowledge of managing a

company such as the one he belong to makes him a reliable and unique source for information on
managerial expertise. The evaluation was held in a classroom in the technology building for
South Texas College which we both instruct. The material was presented in a classroom setting
and was evaluated with a lab assistant and myself as presenters. The lab assistant was asked to be
present for the sole reason of aiding the presenter (myself) in getting material to the trainee (Mr.
Flores).
One-to-One Evaluation Summary
The observation for this section was to be run as the projected training that would take place in
the planned training being presented. The evaluation took place in a classroom after school hours
which started at 5:30 PM and was completed by two hours later at 7:30 PM. The planning of this
observation was targeting not only the evaluated aspect, but also as a measuring tool for me in
the allotted time frame.

Synopsis
The information in the suggested plan was well accepted by the one-to-one advisor. The
information provided in this unit will be very beneficial to students and general public that is
seeking technical help in choosing a mobile device for their individual purpose. The information
provided could be used to give training to the community in whole. Training such as this could
be taught by upper level students to incoming students which could aid all parties involved.
These suggestions will be seriously pursued in order to further educate our students and potential
students.

Small Group Evaluation

Introduction
For this section I have selected three students to simulate a group; students were selected
from our Electronic and Computer Maintenance department that were willing participants (which
will be simulating the group breakout which will take place in the training). The students are
comprised of Abel Ibarra (S1), Gilbert Gonzalez (S2) and Juan Vasquez (S3). The targeted
students for this evaluation were comprised of first semester students in the hopes of attempting
to simulate attendees diverse knowledge that will be signing up for this training. The Computer
skills for each participant range between Normal computer experience to just beginning a
computer career.
The time and date were picked around the students schedule which was on Wednesday
between 3:00 PM and 5:00PM. The time slot allowed the full attention of the participants and
was ideal to fill a void in the time slot the classroom would be available. I am taking role of
trainer and they will be the participants.

Synopsis
The evaluation presented from the small group was favorable. The group seemed to have
a good time with the training. The feedback was that the instruction and steps were simple
enough for them to complete with little or no assistance. The time allowed was questioned by

exiting scenarios were challenging and true to the subject matter. The information provided
allowed the learner to complete all aspects of the interactive sections and questions. The
interaction that took place seemed to keep all students engaged and willing participants
throughout.

Summary
The final result of this project allows a computer user to find a laptop that is best
equipped for their life style needs. The evaluation procedure is crucial for any projected plan,
and this plan is no exception. The procedures have gone through some update with the
recommendation from the evaluators. I have updated questions, time and pictures to show
updated and clear instruction to the procedures for both trainer and trainee.

Lets begin by studying the ports of a computer. What is a port? First, why are ports
important? Well let's find out what each port allows us to do with our laptop. A port is the
connection that let us connect external devices to the insides of our laptops which allows for us
to see for example this projectors output. If we did not have a port that allowed us to connect to
external devices we could not extend the usage we have become accustom of using (such as
printers, monitors).
