Reservoir Analysis
A complex reservoir in the Middle East was
known to contain a fissured system and strikeslip fractures. Schlumberger Data & Consulting
Services (DCS) was asked to investigate how
these fractures might be influencing fluid
movement within the reservoir. DCS identified
Schlumberger carbonate experts with extensive
experience in the region and asked them to
assist in the project.
The initial phase of the study indicated
that the largest fractures in the field extended
throughout the reservoir sequence and
connected the upper and lower layers. Results
from well tests confirmed these large, open
fractures, which would allow fluid flow, and
identified permeability values for the fractured
and nonfractured reservoir rock.
Optimal horizontal well placement in this fractured reservoir was determined through integration
of reservoir and production engineering and geological studies.
