2 Managing Digital Tools and Resources - effectively manage digital tools and
resources within the context of student learning experiences.
Reflection
The multimedia design project was completed for ITEC 7445. The purpose of this
project was to create a student-centered project based learning experience using a
constructivist approach where students developed CPR instructional videos. The
reflection below addresses how this artifact meets this standard.
For the multimedia design project, students had to use a variety of digital tools to create
their final project. The students used Google Docs to formulate their storyboard or
script. They used flip cameras or smartphones to film the footage for the instructional
video. They used iMovie or MovieMaker to edit and produce their final project. Each of
these tools played a integral part in the students learning for this project, however,
managing the digital tools the students used was something that was required of me
before the project began and through the duration of the project. Before the students
began the project, I made sure I knew how to proficiently use each of the digital tools
my students were going to be using for the project. I did not want a situation to arise
where a student had an issue using one of the tools where I could not help them. This
turned out to be very beneficial to me because of the issues students had throughout
the project. Issues arose with each of the digital tools used throughout the project and I
was able to address each of them. Having the ability to effectively manage each of the
digital tools my students used allowed me seamlessly integrate a student-centered
project based assignment where the students worked collaboratively with one another.
From creating this artifact, I learned the benefit of being proficient at the use of any 21 st
century technology a teacher uses with their students before the first time using it. This
allowed me to address any issues the students had throughout the project. If I were to
change one thing about this artifact, I think I would have trained the teachers in my
department who used this WebQuest in the use of these digital tools before they
implemented this assignment. Several of them said they knew how to use these tools
but when issues arose, they had to come get me from my classroom.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacted student learning because the
students learned how to utilize a variety of technologies proficiently to master content
standards and produce a final product. The impact of this artifact was assessed at the
completion of the project by the technology and content standards rubrics.
