MULTI-MEDIA AUTHORING TEMPLATE

PART A: Students will work in collaborative groups and create a 3-5 minute video on a biome of the world. The video should
include images of plant life, animal life, geography, weather and maps. Music should be included throughout the video. There
should be 5 slides with text and bulleted points with descriptions of animal life, plant life, climate and location.

After the video is finished, it will be published to the class website. As a class, we will watch each video and discuss the content
material.

Grade Level: 7th

S7L4. Students will examine the dependence of organisms on one another and their environments.
e. Describe the characteristics of Earths major terrestrial biomes (i.e. tropical rain forest, savannah, temperate, desert, taiga,
tundra, and mountain) and aquatic communities (i.e. freshwater, estuaries, and marine).

Brief Description of Learning Experience:


Students will first watch an introductory video on biomes. Next they will be placed into collaborative
groups and assigned a biome. Instructions for making the video and requirement needed within the
movie will be handed out. Moviemaker will be utilized to complete the media project. Students will
have three class periods to create their video. The teacher will act as a facilitator and aid with
technology.

Once the videos are finished, they will be uploaded to the class website and the class will view each
one. Discussions on the content material will be discussed as a large group. While on the class
website, the families of the students will also have the opportunity to view the videos.

The students will be assessed by themselves, group members and the teacher. The teacher will
provide written feedback. On the class website, students will be permitted to place positive feedback
that will be teacher approved before being viewed.

Importance of technology:
Adding multimedia to the biomes unit increases higher-order thinking and student engagement. This
activity or lesson could be taught without multimedia, but the students would most likely be bored and
uninterested.

Teachers will monitor internet use and allow only student friendly/approved websites
Password protected class website
No names or personal information will be included in the videos
