Collegiate Neuroscience Society

Constitution
Article I Name
* Section 1 The name of this club or organization shall be Collegiate Neuroscience Society.
Article II Purpose/Mission Statement
* Section 1 a) To spread awareness of the prevalence and importance of how neuroscience is intimately
involved in everyday life. Our target is the Wayne State community as well as the greater Detroit community
and surrounding areas. We will promote the idea that having a basic understanding of the functions of the
brain, psychology, and front-line neuroscience research, can lead to an overall healthier lifestyle and a more
engaging intellectual individual.
b) To provide Wayne State students with opportunities to learn and interact with distinguished individuals in
the neuroscience field, encompassing research, industry as well as the medical fields.
c) To provide outreach opportunities and guidance to students interested in the neurosciences and engage
them in stimulating activities and events that will be beneficial to starting a neuroscience career.
d) To advocate the need for an increased public awareness of neurodegenerative diseases which are a major
public health issue in a society that is aging longer and growing a larger population of older aged individuals.
CNS will be active in organizing fundraisers and activities to provide money for research and to support better
medical care for individuals with this disease.
e) To encourage widespread student interest in the neurosciences in order to initiate the development for an
intellectually stimulating neuroscience undergraduate major at WSU.

* Section 2 Through volunteering at schools, hosting educational talks for the community, collaborating with
other groups and organizations to stimulate interest in the field. Providing clinical opportunities and hosting
events to engage in discussion of current research with Wayne State students, and collaborating with nonprofit projects that address the issues of neurodegenerative and other brain disorders. Hosting periodic
general board member activities and events that seek to uncover how neuroscience is intimately involved in
peoples lives and how it can be used to augment your lifestyle and career path.

Article III Membership


* Section 1 A short application form is all that is required for membership. Form will include name,
email, and agreement to abide by organization rules.

* Section 2 Membership in this club or organization is open to all meeting the above criteria,
irrespective of race, creed, color, gender, class, age, nation of origin, nationality, disability, marital status,
religion, veteran status, or sexual orientation.
Article V Officers/Executive Board
* Section 1 1. President: He/she shall be the official representative of the club. He/she will be the external
spokesperson and the main liaison between the organization and the advisers as well as other
organizations/individual contacts. He/she is responsible for creating long/short term goals and managing the
executive board. He/she will be responsible for over-viewing the recruitment of future executive members to
ensure a secure, constantly developing future for the organization. He/she will be responsible for generating

a semester report of organization activity, and event list along with the most prevalent issues, solutions and
ideas generated during that semester for future reference.
2. Vice-President: Presidents right hand person. Undertakes the responsibilities of the President in
conjunction with the President or when he/she is unavailable. Assists with the oversight of the organization
long/short term goals. This includes the supervision of the executive board and general board
events/activities. Responsible for the coordination of all of the officer meetings.
3. Secretary: Shall be responsible for keeping the records, minutes and documents of the organization and
shall conduct such correspondence. Maintain the organization's e-mail account.
4.Treasurer: Shall be the custodian of the Clubs funds and shall be responsible for the safeguarding and
disbursement. Must complete accurate bookkeeping of money being fund-raised and money being spent
through the various activities of the club. In charge of finding sponsors. He/She shall give a monthly
financial report to the body and at any other time that it may be required.
5. Public Relations Officer: Shall take charge of the official publication of the society, create and manage a
strong online/campus presence of the club, including website content and social media. 6. Event
Coordinator: Is responsible for community outreach, organizing fundraising activities and informational
events. Shall help promote the objectives of the organization. Also responsible for organization of human
resources during community events.

* Section 2 Must be an active member for at least a semester to run for the office. To be an active member
you must have at least 10 points. To be qualified to run as President, one must be on the executive board for
1 semester.

* Section 3 The method of nominating and electing new officers will be conducted via a two-phase
process. In phase 1, interested applicants will first submit an application and be interviewed by the e-board
and screened based on individual's ability to promote the goals of the organization. The individuals that pass
through phase 1 will then move on to phase 2. In phase 2, the candidates will present their campaign
platforms to the general body and then the general body will be allowed to vote on the most appropriate
candidate to fill in a specific e-board position. The candidate that has the majority of the votes will be allotted
the specific e-board position for which they ran.

* Section 4 In case of death or disability of an officer, the Executive Board shall appoint an interim officer
until a successor shall have been elected by the members, via the process mentioned in question 8. If an
individual obstructs, deters, or causes the organization and its members intentional harm in any shape or
form, or violates university/organization code in any way, they will be at the very least expelled from the
organizations by either the president, or if necessary, unanimous board/gen member decision.

* Section 5 Election for the organizations board officers shall be held 2 months before the end of the
Winter semester or at the discretion of the President.

Article VI Elections
* Section 1 Election of officers shall be held 2 months before the end of the Winter semester or at the
discretion of the President.

Article VII Meetings


* Section 1 Regular meetings of this club or organization shall be held [Specify the frequency of meetings.
Determine who has the authority to call a meeting and who has the responsibility of notifying members of
meetings and how it should be done. For example, The secretary shall notify members of the business
meeting, via e-mail, no later than five business days in advance of the meeting.]
* Section 2 Quorum for regular meetings shall consist of 25% of the members and at least 80% officers.
* Section 3 The edition of Roberts Rules of Order shall govern meetings of this club or organization
within the requirements of this constitution and bylaws adopted by the membership of this club or
organization.
* Section 4 Members may call special meetings by explaining to any officer the urgency of the meeting and
then the executive board will officially call the meeting after a brief deliberation.

* Section 5 The President, or at least 2 officers of the Executive Board can call for special
meetings giving at least seven days notice, except in cases of dire emergency wherein immediate
decision need to be rendered.

Article XI Constitutional Amendments


* Section 1 Amendments can be proposed by any general body member to the board via notifying the
board at least 10 days before the date of the meeting designated for amendments. Amendment proposal
requires vote from board to move for ratification and majority vote from general body to get ratified.
