There are 7 categories of classifying an animal

1. Least concern
A species that is widespread and has an abundant population.

2. Near Threatened
A species that is likely to qualify for a threatened category in the near future.

3. Vulnerable Species
A species that has had a 50-30% population decline, Area of occupancy is
under 2,000km2 and under 10,000 mature individuals.

4. Endangered Species
A species that has had a 50-70% population decline, Area of occupancy is
under 500km2 and under 2,500 mature individuals.

5. Critically Endangered
A species that has had an 80-90% population decline, Area of occupancy is
under 10km2 and under 250 mature individuals.

6. Extinct in the Wild


A species that only survives in captivity.

7. Extinct
No remaining individuals of the species.
