Student Response System (SRS) Activity

Name:Holly Yates
Grade Level: 7th
Content Area: Math
Standards Addressed: MGSE7.NS.3 Solve realworld and mathematical
problems involving the four operations with rational numbers.
Student Response Technology Used:
Quizlet
NearPod
Socrative
PollEverywhere
iRespond
TodaysMeet
Other: Plickers
Technology that Students will use to respond to questions/prompts:
Computer
Hand-held student response system (such as i-Respond)
Phone
Tablet (such as iPad)
Other wireless device (such as iPod
Touch)
Describe the instructional activities that will occur prior to the SRS
Activity and how you will introduce the SRS Activity: Prior to this activity,
the students will have had many days of practice with solving real-world problems
using the four main operations with rational numbers. The teacher should give the
information in a variety of formats including through lecture, small group handson learning, individual homework gone over in class, and student created realworld problems used by whole class.
Describe the purpose of the SRS activity (Check all that apply)
Assess Prior Knowledge
Anticipatory Set (Create Interest in a Topic)
To
Illuminate Common Misconceptions
Formative Assessment of Content
Knowledge (for purposes of differentiation and mastery for ALL students!)
Summative Assessment of Content Knowledge
Test Preparation
Survey/Poll
Discussion Starter
Homework Collection
Other
Additional explanation of purpose (optional): This activity is good way to
decide how to proceed with a lesson. It lets the teacher check how well the class
as mastered the concepts and if the is a common problem with the information.
This also gives the students an idea of what test question will be like and what
answer is expected of them.
Type of session:

Teacher-Paced

Student-Paced

Identification of students:
Students will log-in so their individual scores will be available to you after the
session
SRS Activity will be anonymous
Briefly describe what will happen during the SRS Activity (For example:
What will students do? What will teacher do? What materials are needed? How
long will the SRS activity take?):
For this activity each student will need their assigned Plicker card, pencil, and
paper. The teacher will need a phone or tablet to collect the students answers.
The teacher will read each question aloud then record students answers when
they are ready without letting it take more than 4 minutes for each question. The
students will answer questions then hold up their Plicker card with they are done.

Types of Questions/Prompts (Check all that Apply):
Multiple-choice

True/False
Yes/No
Short Open-ended
response or fill-in-blank
Longer open-ended response
Provide samples of questions/prompts to be given to students:
See additional word document.
Right/Wrong Answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions? :
Yes
No
Mixed (Some will have correct answers, others will not.)
Immediate Corrective Feedback:
Will you pre-select correct answers to some or all of the questions and display the
correct response to the class after the SRS activity?
Yes
No
Why or why not? Each correct answer will be displayed, so each student will know
the answer. This will allow the student to ask peers or the teacher if they need
help figuring out how to solve a problem.
Use of Data: What data will be collected as a result of this activity. How will it be
used and by whom? (For example: Will information collected from this activity be
used to award a grade? Will the individual information collected be shared with
students and/or parents to help them monitor individual progress? Will you
discuss the aggregate, anonymous data with the whole class to help them learn?
Will you use data to differentiate instruction for students? If so, describe how. )
Data collected will be used for the teacher and student to understand where each
student is on their way to mastery of the skills. Each student will know their how
well they did, and if necessary, the teacher will have a conference with a student
to figure out the best course of action to get the student on track for doing well on
the assessment.
Describe what will occur after the SRS activity: After the activity, the
teacher will assess if any further instruction is needed for any of the four
operations. If more instruction is needed, the teacher will review how the
operation is used with the higher level thinking problems. If no further instruction
is needed, the teacher will announce when the assessment will occur and what
form it will take.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. (For example: What
are you trying that you have not tried before? What do you hope to learn from
this activity? How do you hope it will help students learn? You must design
something that will help you learn something new! Honor System!) I hope this
activity will be a way to assess how all students comprehend the information. I
think it will be a good way to allow shy or not-so-confident students to answer in a
whole group setting without feeling like the spotlight in on them because no other
student will know their answer or how well they did.
Other comments about your SRS Activity (optional): This is a new way to
quickly assess students. It allows for immediate feedback, and it fairly cheap to
use.
