Ladies and gentlemen, as you have heard before, during the downfall of

Malacca, Portuguese attacked and colonized the kingdom. Now imagine,

what if Portuguese did not come at that time? What will happen to
Malacca? One of the possible ending is Malacca will continue to fall and
eventually diminished.
Now, imagine what if there is no British, will we know what democracy is?
What is system? And what legalisation is?
Without the arrival of Japanese, we wont know the cruelty of colonialism
and we wont have the desire to form a better nation?
Tommy Thomas who is an advocate wrote an article in The Malaysian
Insider. He said, Malaysia is unique because we were colonised by four
different foreign powers and now we enjoys the best of relations with
these four colonial powers. The question is should we be grateful with this
statement? Or should we ask for a public apology from them or should we
thank them for colonising us?
The US is the most dangerous colonial power in the 21 st century. There is a
new form of imperialism has developed: Mind set and culture which is
something that is not obvious and indirectly. Malayan people were once
resilient to foreign influence. When British set the English as official
language, they against that. When British set formal clothes as official
attire, they against that.
However now, we start to dress like them, talk like them and eat like
them. Globalisation, is it really a good thing or in the opposite way. Now
look around you, sorry to say but Chinese sit with Chinese, Malays sit with
Malays, international students sit with international students. Isnt it this is
the exact scenario that British and Japanese wish to see during the
colonialism? They divided our grandpa and grandma into different
occupations and living area just to break the races apart.
Ladies and gentlemen, do you know what makes our nation so special? It
is not about being colonized for 500 years. We cannot change the history
and the lesson is the matter. We have to learn from our mistake. These 4
colours represent different races we have in this country. We have Malays,
Chinese, Indians and other races from Sabah and Sarawak. What makes
Malaysia so special is the blending of these colour into this wonderful and
beautiful flag but still we can live together peacefully, this is what our flag
reflects and this is why our nation is strong and special.
