I understand that Colin Uren has applied for the position you have open, and I am delighted to have this opportunity to enthusiastically recommend him for your consideration. I have had the privilege to teach alongside Colin at Wellspring Preparatory High School for three years. Colin has consistently demonstrated a passion for mentoring students that is unsurpassed among fellow teachers. He is an empathetic, kind, and considerate teacher that inspires students to achieve to the best of their abilities. During my first year at Wellspring, Colin was ranked as one of the best teachers within the PrepNet district, consisting of four different schools throughout the state of Michigan, according to student perception surveys. Over the next two school years, he only continued to improve as an educator. Students are quick to respond to his method of teaching, which relies on creativity, energy, and constant engagement. Colins success as an educator and mentor extends beyond normal classroom duties. He is a very involved in all aspects of students education, whether this means staying after school to tutor struggling kids or rallying students at a pep rally to support our athletic teams. Colin is also a first-rate coach who has taken our fledgling soccer programs (both girls and boys) to a competitive level far exceeding anyones expectations. As a new varsity athletic program at a small charter school, Colin was not given the advantage of many coaches at similarly sized schools, and yet in several short seasons, he made our teams competitive with some of the most established programs in the city. Colins work with Wellsprings soccer programs, specifically the boys, allowed our students to feel pride and a true sense of school spirit that they had never experienced before. Students not only like Mr. Uren, they seriously respect and appreciate him, too, because he manages his classroom discipline and procedures wisely and efficiently, and he is a truly dedicated teacher who knows his subject matter and how to engage students in it. Colin is highly conversant in the concerns that educators currently face, and he has adapted his curriculum to fit a Common Core compliant, Standards-Based model. It has been a great privilege of mine to work alongside Colin for the past three years. You will no doubt be very well-served to have him as a member of your teaching staff. Please call (616-901-1722) or email (josh.aldrich@outlook.com) if you would like to discuss his qualifications further. I would be glad to answer any questions you may have. Sincerely,
Josh Aldrich AP Literature and Language Teacher Wellspring Preparatory High School
