Introduction to Architecture

Rationale: What you want students to know, do and be like when they finish this unit!

At the end of this unit of study, students will be able to teach others about
different types of home styles, what makes each home style unique, and the
specific characteristics of an individual home style, which students will
research. Students will assess their own work through an evaluation rubric that
will be discussed after the task is defined for the students, by the teacher.
Also, students will participate in a work critique as a class to discuss positives
and negatives of completed for sale design.
Overview: A brief summary of the nature and scope of the unit.

Students will research different home styles found in different cultures and
areas throughout the world which they have been studying. After completing
research of characteristics, style, locations, history, etc, through use of lab and
Internet sources, students will select one home style to research in depth and
create a for sale ad focusing on the originality and characteristics of the home
style. Students will be paired with another student who researched a similar
home style. Students will work together to create a home walk through of the
interior of the home focusing on modern day styles with characteristics of the
home styles they researched. In conclusion, Students their ideas and create
design layout of both the exterior of both home styles they researched and
interior images collected and explain why each of the room chosen meet the
characteristics of the home style they researched.
The BIG question(s) will guide this unit and focus teaching and learning.
