MUZEUM SZTUKI 2 (ms2)

This new space of the Muzeum Sztuki is located in
the historic building of a 19th century weaving
plant. Ms2 is primarily a venue for experimenting
with the Collection of 20th and 21st Century Art.
The unique collection of the Museum is presented
in an unconventional way: instead of a
chronological lecture on the development of art,
works of art representing various periods and
movements are arranged into a story touching
themes and motifs important for the contemporary
public. The permanent exhibition is a work in
progress, constantly subject to alterations,
rearranged by invited curators and artists
themselves. ms2 also features temporary
exhibitions, workshops, lectures, meetings with
artists and film screenings. The building also
houses Boston Caf and an artistic bookshop, maa
litera art.

The Museum Research Center was established in 1994 as a result of a
contract between Museum of City Lodz and British Council Poland.
Initially it was associated with the Museum of City Lodz and since
1998, the organization of the The Museum Research Center is held by
Museum of Art in Lodz. In 2009 it begun its new form of activities as a
research institution.

Birthday in ms2
The ms2 museum invite you to consider the offer of birthday art workshops for children at the
Museum of Art in Lodz: ms2, Manufaktura, 19 Ogrodowa Street. We suggest you contact the
Department of Education of the Museum of art to set the topic and date of the workshop (duration
approx. 1h.) and order a small party at Boston Cafe an elegant cafe located next to the education
room in the ms2 building. We have planned the following events: Collection in Fashion, Equatorial
Journeys, How is It Done?, Crumpled-Woven , Mu-zoo-um as well as Planning the Planet and
Raiders of the Lost Stories.

Colletion in Fashion
Educational workshop for the youngest (children over 4) conducted by Marta
Wlaze and Magorzata Wiktorko. Where did the interior design of a flat come
from? The print on the wallpapers? The shapes of furniture? The picture on a
T-shirt? The pattern on fabric? Where does the border line between pure and
functional art lie? Perhaps there is no such line at all? Marta Wlaze and
Magorzata Wiktorko will lead you towards the answers to these questions
presenting the designs of Wadysaw Strzemiski and i Katarzyna Kobro that
participated in creating the design art of the 20th century. They will invite you
to a walk around the gallery in search of works of art that can be a basis of a
print on fabric or an architecture project and eventually they will start
manufacturing T-shirts. Everyone will be able to design their own T-shirt and
complete the sylisation process of ones own persona with body paint.

Plannig the Planet

Educational workshop for the youngest (children over 4)
conducted by Agnieszka Wojciechowska-Sej
Roman Opaka has been counting til infinity trying to
encompass the universe since 1965. Wadysaw
Strzemiskis Unism, the works of Gnter cker or Antoni
Starczewski are to microcosms, attempts to recreate the
harmony of the universe anew. Can art be a telescope by
means of which an artist-astronomer peeks at the way in
which cosmos is designed? Can the works of Jerzy
Rosoowicz be its lenses? Can art peek at the universe?
How to render that which is impossible to touch, to take in?
How can we show infinity? What can the other worlds look
like? Agnieszka Wojciechowska-Sej invites young
astronomers.

Raiders of the Lost Stories

Educational workshop for the youngest (children over 7)
conducted by Katarzyna Gobiowska. A work of art stops a
moment in time: events, emotions, memories, an artist
experience. What could have happened before? What could have
happened after? Each work of art has various stories concealed in
it. Young interpreters will work on Moby Dick by Krzysztof
Bednarski, First Communion Souvenir by Mirosaw Baka, The
Most Handsome Hero of the Cosmos and Mr Shepherd by Derek
Boshier and Untitled by Leon Tarasewicz. Luckily they will not
have to write learned essays. A work of art from the 20th and 21st
century Art Collection will become a still frame in a story. Maybe it
will even speak in a comic-book balloon.

XYZ of Art History

"XYZ" close the alphabet. Regular takes on
the 20th and 21st century art simply find no
time to include them. On Saturdays, at 1.13
p.m at ms2 you can hear about the end of
art history from the very beginning, you can
hear about the classics of the 20th century
avant-garde and about the artist creating
works that surround us these days.

How is it done?
Educational workshop for the youngest (children over 4) conducted by Marta
Wlaze/Magorzata Wiktorko. Little participants will learn about the techniques used by the artists of
the 20th century avant-garde. They will get to know the matter that makes up a work of art (in this
case: canvas stretcher and paint, the structure of canvas and painting, etc.); most of all, they will
debunk the painters profession as an issue accessible to only a few: the participants will have a
chance to learn professional names of techniques they already know, such as goffrage or frottage.
During the workshop the participants will use modelling paste and texture gel, acrylic paint, finger
paint, they will use straw plaiting, stamps and even vegetables to create unique, avant-garde works of
art that would make Max Ernst proud. Here is an opportunity to ash, how is it done?.
