Hydraulic packer operations Operations where pumping a ball to plug the string is not feasible
Benefits and features
Low-cost alternative to temporarily
plug off the CT string No drop ball required to release the plug Plug pumped out by application of defined pressure Pumpout pressure adjusted by varying the number and type of shear screws Available in various sizes and materials Add-on option for almost any other downhole tool
The CT pumpout or shearout plug
gives the operator a temporary plug in the end of the CT or tool string which enables the string to be pressured up without pumping a ball into a seat. This feature is often required to set a hydraulic packer. It is not recommended to run with only a pumpout plug into a live well. Additional check valves above the shear out plug are required if a double-barrier philosophy is to be followed. The shearout plug is installed in a sub or housing, which can be a component of any other tool. At the desired depth, the hydraulic packer can be set by application of the setting pressure. Additional pressure pumps the shearout plug off the end of the tool string.
Pumpout and Shearout Plug Sizes
Pumpout plugs are available in all CT sizes and wall thicknesses. Shearout plugs are available for 0.750-in. to 2.000-in. bore in 1 8-in. steps, or as per request.
