#1: This project studies the foot length and height of a sampling of adult males. Our
observations hope to discover the following: Is there a correlation between foot
length and height in a sample of adult males. The correlation in question is
whether or not height in cm increases as the foot length in cm also increases.
Making foot length (x) and height (y) as it is dependent on x.

#2: Our hypothesis is as follows As foot length increases, subsequently the height
also increases. Suggesting that the larger the length of the foot the taller the male
subject is.

#3: Data Collection: Note Data obtained from HTML text Elementary Statistics 12 th

According to our data collection and analysis in the above graphs, plots and tables
our hypothesis is noted to be correct, as there is a correlation between X- foot
length and Y- height, showing that as foot length increases height also increases.
Below is also our calculated r vs table r as well as our proven regression equation.
Correlation coefficient (r) = 0.706
Critical value for n = 20 ( = 0.05) = 0.444
Regression equation: y = (3.5 * x) + 87.1

# 8 Prediction table based on our regression equation

y = (3.5*x) + 87.1
To consider our predictions valid we must use numbers in our range of 25 to 29 cm
for foot length.
#1 x= 26.3 y= 179.15
#2 x= 28 y= 185.1
#3 X= 29 y= 188.6
#4 x= 25 y= 174.6
#5 x= 27.3 y= 182.65

# 9 Afterthought
Our information was retrieved from a data set representing foot length, shoe size
and height for a sampling of both men and women. Our project focused solely (all
puns intended) on the foot length vs height of the male participants only. It is
unclear if the sampling was voluntary or if it was capable of creating a bias based
on collection. The sample was however based only on 19 participants. To
comfortably back a hypothesis on a public and professional scale, it would be
beneficial to increase the sample size to include possible variation. To help the
layperson coming across our study, we tried to make it clear what we are
comparing. We did not search for a comparison of shoe size vs height, which may
be a more common thought. We looked at the actual length of the foot and the
height of the individual participant. Our analysis is correct as we were able to prove
a correlation; therefore our conclusive hypothesis is also correct. Per our data
sampling there is in fact a correlation between foot length and height, they both
increase respectively. To help our readers better understand it could have helped to
explain that shoe size versus foot length relating to height creates more outliers and
is not normally distributed meaning there is less statistical clarity and significance.
