Introduction
IhavebeenaTechnologyTeacherfor10years,andhavetaughthighschool
engineeringfor6ofthoseyears.Engineeringisasubjectthatcanbehardforstudentstograsp
astheyarelearningaboutnewconcepts.TheuseofEducationalTechnologywassomething
thatIwantedtoimprovesothatIcouldservemystudentsbetter.Mystatehasalsobeen
makingalotofprogresswithonlineeducation.Isawanopportunitytouseeducational
technologyasatooltocreateonlineengineeringcourses.
Thispaperwillcovertherationaleformyselectionofartifactsthatdemonstratemy
knowledgeinthefiveAECTstandardsthatguidetheworkoftheEdTechprogram.Eachofthe
standardshasindicatorsthatdemonstrateproficiencyinthatstandard.Ihaveincluded
explanationsoftheartifactsfortheseindicators.BecauseIstartedmycourseworkin2009,
someoftheartifactsfromEdTech501503areatypicalofwhatisrepresentednowdueto
coursechanges2009.

appropriatelytogettheoutcomeIwantfromaPLC.

theirdigitalfootprintaswellashowtheycancleanitupforthefuture.Asstudentsarecreating
contentduringtheirlearning,theyneedtobeconsciousoftheDigitalFootprintthattheyare
leavingbehind.

implementtechnologyappropriatelytoleverageaspecificoutcome.Thecourseisdesignedfor
studentswhoneedtocatchupontheirskills.Becausethematerialisdeliveredinanonline
environment,itisidealforstudentswhowillbeworkingonthecontentattheirownpaceoutside
oftheclassroomenvironment.Thecoursewasselfevaluatedbasedfromanadaptationofa
rubricfromthe
InternationalStandardsforOnlineCourses.(Bakkenetal,2010)

company'strainingpackage.Thepurposeofthisevaluationwastodetermineifthetraining
providedbythecompanywasadequatetotheusers.Theproposalisaninitialstepwhen
evaluatingtheimplementationofeducationaltechnology.Theproposalalsooutlineswhatwill
beevaluatedandhowitwillbeevaluated.Ifeltthattheproposalwouldbeagood
demonstrationofhowIcanassesslearningandevaluateifthepracticeiseffective.The
proposalisexplicitindescribinghowtheevaluationwillbedeterminedandwhatistobe
measured.

andvideo.Thelearningenvironmentinthislessonisbothflexibleanddiverseand
demonstratestheuseofsocialmedia,studentlearningmanagementsystems,andcontent
creation.

oursocietyasamulticulturalcommunity.

TheassignmentwasdesignedforstudentsinmycommunityinIdaho.Manyofthesestudents
haveneverbeenoutsideofthestate,letalonethecountry.Icreatedalessonthatwouldexpose
themtoarchitecturethatistypicallyfoundinEuropeandnottypicalofwhattheywouldfindin
Idaho.Thepurposeofthisartifactwastodemonstratethatarchitectureandengineeringisvery
differentinothercultures.Studentswouldbeexposedtothatworldwidediversitythroughthis
activity.

TheasynchronouslessonthatIhaveprovidedasmyartifactdemonstratesalesson

orsetting.Itisdesignedtobetrulyseparatefromabrickandmortarenvironmentforlearning.In
atruevirtualsetting,thelearnercanstillreceiveinformationfromthevideos,searchtheirown
answers,andperforminquirybasedlabs,allwithouthavingtobeinaclassroom.

resourcestoprovideoptimalconditionsforlearningbasedonprinciples,theories,andeffective

asDrillandPractice,Tutorials,andGames.Thispresentationwouldservetohelpaninstructor
determinewhichinstructionalsoftwarewouldbeappropriateinalearningsituation.

place,facultyandstudentshavethepotentialtofacilitatefurthercommunicationinsideand

safety,bestpractice,andrespectforcopyright,FairUse,andappropriateopenaccessto
resources.

twopurposes.ThefirstpurposewastodemonstratethatIcouldcreateandfosteran
environmentwhereethicaluseofsocialmediacouldbeused.Thesecondpurposewasto
designasocialmediaguidelinethatIcoulduseinmyschool.Bycreatingandabidingbythe
guidelinesinthisartifact,learnerscouldbemorelikelytohavesafeinteractionsinasocial
mediaenvironment.
3.6DiversityofLearners
Candidatesfosteralearningcommunitythatempowerslearnerswithdiversebackgrounds,
characteristics,andabilities.

TheAssistiveTechnologypresentationisanoverviewofadaptiveandassistive
technologiesthatareavailabletolearnerswithadisability,bothmentalandphysical.Ichose
thisartifactbecauseitrelatesdirectlytoempoweringlearnerswithdiversebackgroundstotake
controloftheirlearning.Aneffectivelearningenvironmentwouldneedtotakeintoaccountany
disabilitiesandbeabletoadapttothem.Thisartifactdisplaysthevarietyofassistivetechnology
availabletolearnerswithvaryingabilities.
4.1CollaborativePractice
Candidatescollaboratewiththeirpeersandsubjectmatterexpertstoanalyzelearners,develop
anddesigninstruction,andevaluateitsimpactonlearners.

Thisinteractivepresentationwascreatedtoshowhowelectricalcircuitswork.Insteadof
creatingastaticpresentationthatthelearnerwouldjustlookat,Icreatedaninteractive
presentation.Studentshavetointeractwiththepresentationinordertoseewhattheconcepts
are.Thereareelementsoutsideofthepresentationincludedaswell.Studentswouldhavetogo
outofthepresentationinordertoworkthroughasimulatedlab.Thisartifactcouldbeusedas
anexampleforteacherswhoarelookingtocreatelessonsthataresupportedbytechnology.
StudentscouldtheoreticallyusethislessononvariousdevicestolearnCircuitTheoryand
wouldnotnecessarilyneedtobeintheclassroom.Thistypeofpresentationisnotthestandard
formosttraditionallearningenvironments,andthatiswhyIchoseitasmyartifact.
4.3ReflectiononPractice
Candidatesanalyzeandinterpretdataandartifactsandreflectontheeffectivenessofthe
design,developmentandimplementationoftechnologysupportedinstructionandlearningto
enhancetheirprofessionalgrowth.

preferences.Thisartifactincludesarecordingofthelessonalongwiththereflectionofthe
lesson.Afterthelessonwasimplemented,itwasevaluatedandrecordedforfutureuse.

dealofhigherorderthinkingandproblemsolvinginordertocompletetheassessment.I

assessmentthattrulyalignwiththegoalsofthelesson.
